“So we have to break into the school again.” Michael stated, not at all sounding enthusiastic at the prospect of returning there.
“Yeah, looks like it.” Dorothy said somberly.
“But is it safe for you to go back there?” Kara asked, “Colstrom can still probably mind control you… or whatever he’s doing with his voice.”
“His voice?” Michael asked, confused.
“Yeah, that’s how I woke you up…” Mikey said. “You reacted only to Colstrom’s voice.”
“And how did you get his voice?” Dorothy asked.
“I’m the voice guy in our group. I imitate voices, which includes Colstrom’s voice, so I tried telling you to deactivate and to rest in his voice. That’s how we woke you up.” Mikey said.
“Oh, so you think we should stay here.” Dorothy said, biting her lip.
“I mean, what if Colstrom has his voice blaring through the speakers and it affects you…” I said, reasonably.
“Fine, when are you going…” Michael said, obviously unhappy about being left behind.
A moment of silence passes as Mikey and I glanced at each other, “I think we should go now.” Mikey said suddenly, his fist clenched. “He won’t see it coming if we go in now and we can catch him by surprise.” Both Dorothy and Michael seemed stunned by this.
“It makes the most sense,” I continue for him. “Even if we get caught, they’ll just take us to Colstrom, thinking we’re under his control.”
“But you shouldn’t… I mean…” Dorothy started, but she couldn’t seem to find any reason for us not to go. “Okay but be careful. Be back by tomorrow morning or we’re coming after you.”
“Yeah, be careful.” Michael added, not meeting our eyes.
“We will, and we’ll be back soon,” I said, turning around and stringing Nate’s sunburst necklace around my neck.
“Yeah, now let’s go kick some Colstrom.” Mikey said, and I followed him back into the forest.
