"Are you scared?"
Benji asked his companion as they walked through the nighttime streets.
"No, Benji, I have this terrified look on my face 'cause I'm having so. Much. Fun."
Abbi's voice was laden with sarcasm. Her words held a veiled sting as well, because when Benji had suggested they take a stroll around the streets he had said it would be 'fun'. So far it most certainly had not been fun. The shadows seemed a little creepy to her, and she was fairly used to being on the streets. Something just felt... well, off. She couldn't tell why, but the feeling was definitely there.
It seemed Benji didn't feel this, for he strolled along idly, at a slow and comfortable pace that would have fitted someone wandering at a festival. And the streets most certainly did not resemble a festival. The streets were dirty, and not very well lit. Most of the light came from within taverns or houses. The alleys were very dark, and Abbi kept imagining what could be lurking in them. Any number of ruffians and thieves could be down one of those side streets. She imagined she saw movement in the shadows, and she shifted a bit closer to Benji. Although she would never admit it...
