GUYS THIS IS JUST MY OPINION
okay...
So after Super Paper Mario was released everyone was all like "OH MAN THE PAPER MARIO SERIES IS SO GOOOOOD".
And then Paper Mario: Sticker Star came.
People always complained, saying "OMFG NINTENDO DO WE LOOK LIKE 5-YEAR-OLDS 2 U"
It's like the Mario & Luigi games.
Both franchises have their trilogies.
For Paper Mario, it's: Paper Mario, Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, and Super Paper Mario.
I had good times with Sticker Star a little younger, because at the time, I didn't have any idea what Paper Mario 64, TTYD, or Super were.
So, NOT having the expectation of an average Paper Mario fan, I liked it a lot.
I only got past the Megasparkle Goomba, though.
There was this one level with a TON of Spinies.
Which, if you don't know, have spikes on their shells.
Meaning I needed Hammer Stickers to hurt them.
And...you guessed it...
I didn't have any Hammer Stickers.
And I ignored the Sticker Shops.
So I sold the game.
BECAUSE I WAS STUCK ON ONE ENEMY.
Baby me was stupid.
Anyhoo, after Sticker Star came Color Splash.
A supposedly worse game than Sticker Star.
And I don't know what problem people have with it.
They say it's "A little better than Sticker Star, but still bad".
If I called Sticker Star bad, I'd say Color Splash was a HUGE improvement.
The graphics are good, there's a white outline around Mario to say he's made of paper, and there are PAPER koopalings now!
And of course, there's the annual guide.
In this one, his name is Huey.
FINALLY! Nintendo isn't a feminist for once!
He actually has a lot of backstory, interesting character, and an actual SAD death.
MUCH better than Kersti, if you couldn't tell.
But there's something...dark about it.
Seeing as thiught this game is about paint, every tie you hit an enemy or a boss...the bottom of their sprite goes white.
Which means you're SUCKING THE LIFE FLUIDS OUT OF THEM!
Every time you kill an enemy, they die a slow death!
Straw Shy Guys are sent out to assassinate Toads for BLACK. PAINT.
And while that may seem harmless, NOPE!
They KILL TOADS
for BLACK PAINT
to give BOWSER POWER
AND TAKE OVER THE PAPER WORLD
WHAT. THE HECK.
This is the Partners in Time of the Paper World!
Think about it!
Toads getting their vim sucked up...
The bad guys use it as fuel...
Nintendo obviously tried to make it seem like that!
And these people are dumb for not seeing Color Splash for the way Nintendo wanted you to.
If you take a look at this game, and say "OMFG NINTENDO WHY DID YOU REVIVE STICKER STAR"
Well that's kinda wrong.
Sure, it isn't as dark as Super Paper Mario, but it's up there.
I give it my slap of approval.
Speaking of the koopalings, they're given so much more personality.
Larry is interested in trains.
Wendy likes the sea, no surprise there.
Morton is stupidly funny.
Roy is just so careless and laid back about everything. He recreated an ancient evil like it was nothing.
Iggy likes taming Chain Chomps.
And Ludwig is a fan of Metal Gear Solid.
Am I missing anybody?
The only problem I have with the koopalings at this point is that they don't exactly interact.
Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam fixed this problem, but there were only 2 per battle most of the time, and the only battle with 3 of them had, like, no interaction at all.
The only ACTUAL interactions I can remember were those that had people confused on whether Ludwig was the koopaling leader, and when you block Roy's attack with the giant boulder and hit it to Wendy, she doesn't like it and hurts Roy for you.
I see Bowser and his son connect, and it warms my heart.
But the koopalings are constantly split up.
Larry takes the grasslands, Roy takes the desert, Wendy takes the snow forests, Iggy takes the toxic jungle, Ludwig takes the place of the clouds that look like his hair, Lemmy takes the tropical beach area, and Morton takes the rocky mountains.
DAMMIT JASON, ENOUGH WITH THE LUDWIG JOKES!
But enough about them.
I already talked about Huey, so who else...?
Paper Luigi.
He doesn't appear in the game until you finish the second-to-last chapter, retrieving the Green Big Paint Star and defeating Lemmy.
Then you hear his voice.
The 6 paint starts make a LITERAL Rainbow Road...but it's too slippery to walk on, and would take too long.
That's good ol' Weegee's cue.
He comes in, with the Mario Kart 8 theme playing.
His intro plays...
and you use his...kart to ride up Rainbow Road to Black Bowser's Castle.
And then you fight Roy, who wasn't a boss in any of the worlds.
There's his usual Bullet Bill Blaster that he carries, but he doesn't use it for that.
It's a paint bucket that he uses to mix the paint.
That causes Black Paint.
When he uses his next attack on you, the screen gets covered in Black Paint where Roy is standing.
All of a sudden, Undertale's Genocide Route.
When I first saw this, my head blew up.
Roy has been consumed by Black Paint.
You never know what he looks like or where he is. You just helplessly block as he approaches you.
Roy stops talking.
It's almost as if Roy isn't Roy anymore.
That's...dark.
After you defeat Roy, you move on to the final boss, Black Bowser.
Racist.
And of course, this is how Huey dies.
It won't take long to finish Phase 1, but Phase 2...
The SAME music plays for Black Roy.
This is what he looked like when the screen was covered in black paint.
And then the real fight begins.
But I won't tell you what happens...
that's for you to find out.
This is being the Dopest of Leafeon!
And I hope you all have a fabuloso day!
