Umber Village is a sleepy town without much going for it outside of the local gym, but Tierra is a role model for local kids as well as young trainers on nearby farms and even smaller settlements. As the Tier 1 gym leader, she has the unenviable task of needing to constantly rotate out pokemon of the appropriate level to face challengers. In the Gods and Demons world, pokemon level is an aggregate estimate of relative pokemon strength, is used to monitor pokemon growth until it plateaus in the mid-60s/low-70s, and can decay due to inactivity. Tierra needs to stick to pokemon of about level 30 to face Tier 1 challengers, and so she uses a lot of local wild pokemon that eventually go back to the wild when their levels are too high.

Tierra was born in Unova and always thought she'd need to live somewhere at least as big and bustling as her hometown, Castelia City, but as her travels took her around the world she realized she didn't mind the slower-paced life. She's happy to see an S-tier challenger now and then, though-- the resulting battle is really useful for breaking up the soil outside of the village.
