The blue sky calls
The white clouds swirl
I stand alone
Emotions a whorl
I can’t control it
The beast inside
I hope you all can
Run and hide
The agony is
Burning stronger
A tidal wave
Of unexplained hunger
The tears fall down
My hands are claws
My teeth form into
Deadly jaws
My eyes remain
Alone, unchanged
My skin grows scales
My back grows wings
I try and try
To hold it in
The silence masks
A roar within
The ground is fire
It heats my scales
With that, the
Agony prevails
The roar breaks free!
The sky is smoke
I flap my wings
The flames I stoke
The Earth! it burns!
But still I linger
The sky is my kingdom
The Earth? a cinder
The clouds point above
I climb ever higher
And wonder if God will
Call me a liar
As I ascend to
Heaven’s throne
I think back on
The body I own
The wings, the scales
I am human within
The fire I caused
The Earth was a sin
I stand— await judgement—
“My child,” says the Lord,
“You did well. You had purpose.
“The pain was your sword.”
A single tear rolls down my
Inhuman face
The dragon I was
Said it wasn’t a waste
The monster, it says that
I did what I did
The Earth wasn’t worth it
The truth? I can’t live
My humanity is gone
Lost forever
I did it—I struck down the Earth
For the pressure
Was too much.
I cracked and the dragon escaped
The fear— it consumed me
The monster made haste
I tell myself now that
It couldn’t be helped
The truth is, to be honest
When I woke up I yelped
A scream so primordial
It came from my soul
And I knew that the monster
Could swallow me whole
Now I walk by myself
With God at my side
And let the pain be my sword
As I cried.
The white clouds swirl
I stand alone
Emotions a whorl
I can’t control it
The beast inside
I hope you all can
