So, over the past session I decided to take a visual arts workshop course at uni as a bit of a stress reliever. It was advertised as being 'Conceptual Drawing', but then the teacher turns out to be a sculptor/performance artist and it turned into a 'do anything you feel like' kind of thing. So I decided to make weird things.
Anyway, the coffins are made out of perspex, and the flowers are chrysanthemums, and the coffins are completely sealed, so they will rot anyway into nothingness while the plastic will take hundreds of years to break down. The whole point that I was trying to make with this is that death is organic in nature, yet we try and distance ourselves from that aspect. We try and immortalize ourselves by placing our bodies within objects that will remove ourselves from the cycle of decay, and in that way we attempt to make death clean. Or that's what I was trying to get across anyway. You can take whatever meaning you want from art really, and if that meaning happens to be that you think I'm just a really morbid person who likes sitting around making little coffins all day, so be it. I had fun.
Such Meaning Much Deep
