“Wake up time,” Mr. Walter said whacking Ry with his cane. Instead of asleep in a bed, the boy was tied with rope and dangling upside down off a tree limb. His stuff, clothes, his backpack, his Pokeballs, were in a neat little pile at the base of the tree.

“What's going on!?” Ry shouted, trying to struggle and escape from the rope. Mr. Walter was wears a Japanese style robe and clothing a cane. Across his waist, over the robe, was a belt with six Pokeballs.

“Your training begins now!” Mr. Walter said giving a chuckle. “And for your first exercise, you have to escape. And to make things interesting, I moved your Pokeballs out of reach, so you can't use them. Good luck.” And with that, Mr. Water walked away, leaving Ry.

“WHAT!” He shouted jerking, back and forth even more. “What kind of Pokemon training is this. I understand the training with your Pokemon thing, but this is crazy!” Mr. Walter pretended to not hear the boy’s protests, and went on his merry way.

So Ry continued to struggle and wiggle for over an hour, getting nowhere. “I give up,” he huffed, going limp for a moment. He hung there, and was already feeling the effects of having the blood rush to his head. He gazed around and saw something interesting. There was a small slip up with the knit next to his neck. It was poorly tied, compared the rest of the knots. He twisted his head forward, and bit one end of the knot. He gave it a tug, and the entire rope fell off Ry. The boy fell, landing on his back, with the rope still in his teeth.

“Well that took too long. Normally it only takes half an hour for them to give up and think. You kept struggling and fighting. Why was that?” Mr. Walter asked stepping into view, and looking at Ry.

“I don't know. I just hate to lose.” he said shrugging and dusting himself off. He rise to his feet.

“Now I want you to train. Send out your Infernape and Sceptile. And all three of you will battle.” Mr. Walter said, giving his cane a twirl.

Ry nodded and grabbed Jet and Fuego pokeballs out of his pile of stuff. “So am I fighting you?” He asked send out the two Pokemon.

Mr. Walter smiled. “Jet will be fighting my Abomasnow, Fuego will face my Bronzong, and you will face my Blaziken.” He said sending out the three pokemon he mentioned. “Now attack.”

Before Ry could object he was charged by a Blaziken. The Pokemon sent a punch that hit Ry in the chest sending him flying back. Fuego immediately tried to attack Bronzong with a Flamethrower, but nothing happened. The flames just bounced off. Jet quickly fired an energy ball but that attack also did very little.

When Jet and Fuego saw Ry get knocked away, they rushed to his side. “Don't worry about me, focus on your fights.” he said getting up. He threw off his shirt, and stood there in baggy sweatpants and sneakers, on the cold. His chest was wrapped tightly from a previous injury that was healing, with white bandages.

The Blaziken covered the ground fast, and delivered a punch to Ry’s face sending him flying back, but this time to the left. He flipped and stumble on the muddy snow, dirty on his knees.

Fuego wasn't having a walk on the park either. His Fire type attacks weren't doing anything, so he would have to try a different strategy. He delivered a flurry of punches against the metal Pokemon’s surface. However the only result was a loud gong noise. Then he fired a Psybeam that knocked Fuego into the ground.

Jet was going savage, swing Leaf Blade and Leaf Blade at his opponent. Abomasnow ignored the attacks. Then he opened his mouth, firing a Blizzard attack, that knocked Jet away.

Ry stood up and made a charge for the tree. In a roll he grabbed his goggles from the pile. He snapped them over his eyes to protect them from any fire. Blaziken wrists did spurt fire. Blaziken charged again and swung at Ry. But he was ready for this. He jumped to the left, to avoid the attack. Then he leapt up on Blaziken shoulders, using his arm to vault himself. He wrapped his arms around Blaziken arms and tried to deliver a Full Nelson to the Fire and Fighting type. Blaziken shook him loose, and tossed Ry away.

The boy stood up and raised his left hand, making a loose fist. His goggles had been knocked to his forehead and the occasional burn and bruise speckled his skin. “That all you got?” he shouted at Blaziken beckoning it to attack again.

The Blaziken made a charge, and Ry held his ground. As the Blaziken got close, Ry went for a leg sweep. But the Pokemon leapt up and over it, landing behind Ry. He grabbed Ry below his shoulders and slung him forward into the snow. He struggled a bit, but soon he was back on his feet.

Fuego’s attacks were doing practically nothing as the Pokemon repeatedly threw punches against the Bronzong. He looked in the corner of his eye to see his trainer struggling. He had to help. He did a backflip, and rushed to Ry’s side.

“Fer, fernape,” Fuego said glaring at the Blaziken who seemed to be trying to tempt Fuego to fight him. Ry understood immediately. They needed to work together.

“Jet fall in!” Ry shouted, as Jet clamored beside Ry. Abomasnow, Bronzong, and Blaziken all eyed the three from a distance away, all planning an attack. “Fuego, Fire Type attacks won't hurt Bronzong. It looks like his ability is Heatproof. Jet, you opponent is Grass and Ice. Grass type attacks will do very little. Let's mix things up guys. Fuego, you get that Abomasnow. Keep things close range. Stay behind him a much as you can. Jet, you got that Blaziken? I'll keep that Bronzong busy. Let's go.” Ry said delivering a team plan to his Pokemon. They all shared a nod. Then, they turned to face their opponents. “Let's get em boys.”

Jet was the first to reach his opponent, as his Leaf Blades were drawn. Ry knew how much this Pokemon loved to fight against Pokemon he was weak to. So fighting a Blaziken, close range would be fun. Blaziken raised his fist which were charged with blazing flames. Fire Punch. Jet and the Blaziken exchanged some blows, with each attack being blocked.

“Ken!” Blaziken shouted swinging his leg, which now was supercharged with a Blaze Kick. Jet was kicked across the face and stumbled back. Things were getting fun.

“Infernape!” Fuego shouted as he began to spin forward. Flames jetted out and around him, forming a Flame Wheel. Fuego charged Abomasnow, and rolled up the pokemon, leaving scorch marks in a straight line. Fuego flew up, as Abomasnow let loose a loud roar, that was half angry and half full of pain.

Ry heard that roar and grinned. “My turn.” he said running towards the Bronzong. The Pokemon fired some Psybeam that crashed behind Ry as he ran. Headed a sharp turn and began to run and long the backside of Bronzong. The Pokemon began to turn, firing blast after blast of psychic energy.

Ry quickly understood that the only things that mattered was keeping Bronzong’s attention, and not getting hit.

Jet jumped up and raised his arms. He quickly swung at Blaziken using a Night Slash attack, as he pushed himself forward. Blaziken crossed his arms and absorbed the attack, only moving back slightly. It was time to make things more fun.

Jet swung upwards while his paw was engulfed in a purple draconic energy. He separated Blaziken arms from their crossed position with his Dragon Claw attack, and then slashed Blaziken attack across the chest. Blaziken stumbled back and winced. He aimed another Blaze Kick at Jet, but it was quickly parried by another Dragon Claw.

As Fuego landed behind Abomasnow, he charged a Thunder Punch. With his fist engulfed with sparkling electricity, he punched Abomasnow in the back, making the Pokemon fall in a head first tumble.

Then Fuego opened his mouth, and fired a close range Flamethrower. The fire engulfed Abomasnow, knocking it out. Fuego turned and rushed to Ry’s aid.

The boy jumped, narrowly avoiding another dangerous Psybeam. Fuego leapt forward, with a Mach Punch at ready. The attack landed, but like before it seemed to do nothing.

Jet was doing quite well. Soon Blaziken strategies became quite predictable and Jet could easily avoid attacks. Then he landed a final Dragon Claw, that knocked the Blaziken out. Jet, then rushed over to join his teammates.

“Okay guys, let's give give it give it all we got. Fuego, Close Combat. Jet, Leaf Storm. We gotta be wearing this thing out.” Ry shouted at Jet's arrival.

Both Pokemon nodded and did as they were told. Fuego made the move first, leaping forward and rapidly punching and kicking the Bronzong. The Steel and Psychic showed signs of this actually doing damage, which was a relief. As Fuego leapt backwards after delivering his attack, Jet fired a giant barrage of leaves that surrounded Bronzong, dealing damage. Soon the Bronzong fainted, and Ry was exhausted.

“Good job,” Mr. Walter said stepping out of whatever hiding spot he had hid in and returned his three Pokemon to their Pokeballs.

“What was that all about?” Ry shouted, angry at what the man had did. He made made a fist quickly and clenched his fists.

“Well you see. I know how your a hands on learned so I decided to have you train a bit too. What did you expect? You're here to learn the Ultimate Moves. You learned that your bond with your Pokemon and teamwork is very important.” Mr. Walter said giving a slight chuckle.

Ry was a bit more angry now. “You think I don't know that the bond between trainer and Pokemon is important. I know teamwork is important, so why did you feel the need to do what you did. That Blaziken could have killed me!”

Mr. Water’s face darkened a bit. “Blaziken wouldn't have killed you. He knows what he's doing. And as for the life lessons, it looked like you needed a reminder. You are lacking something you once had.”

There was a silence for a moment, until Mr. Walter said, “Take your stuff and put it up. Then I'll give you an hour break before we start the training officially.”

@BeastBoyLucario, ohbyeah. The training will be cruel though to match what Ry's trying to learn. The Ultimate Moves, which are hard to master or even use.

Don't worry, there will be more on Mr. Walter's character, later. ;)

@StarBlitz I agree. @Ry_Burst I get what's going on with the training. I like how Ry is forced to think on his feet and come up with new plans. Mr. Walters is cruel though.

@StarBlitz, @BeastBoyLucario, that's all part of Mr. Walter's charm. His training methods are a bit odd, but he can still get the job done.
