The wind, swirled around, Ry as he hiked along the snowy trail. His destination, was Snowpoint City, where he would meet a man, who could supposedly, help make two of his Pokemon stronger. Fuego and Jet, an Infernape and Sceptile who were his two strongest and most relied on. His mother had mentioned that it might not be as good idea, but both Jet and Fuego insisted upon it. Currently, Ry was wearing a pair of red rimmed goggles and a long warm coat, that kep him warm. On his head, sat his Pancham, Pax, who had joined, along with Munchy, a Munchlax, who stumbled in the snow, right behind Ry, on this quest, on the hopes of becoming stronger themselves. Those two, were often considered two of Ry’s weaker Pokemon, by trainers.
Ry was deep in thought as he hiked. These deep ventures into his mind had become more and more frequent after a recent league loss. Part of him wanted to become a better trainer, and reinvent and improve his entire battling style. Sure, it might seem crazy, but if wanted to get stronger, he would need to commit himself to do it. So he spent lots of time, thinking, soul searching, and planning. Pax, Fuego, Jet, Munchy, and pretty much the rest of the boy’s pokemon, noticed this and grew worried. Their trainer wasn’t such an introvert, and his lack of talking and energy, was a bad sign.
Munchy looked through the snow, and saw a figure huddle under a tree, shivering. Munchy grabbed onto Ry’s pant leg, and tugged, hoping to get his trainer’s attention. “Munch, Munch!” The Munchlax cried pointing at the figure.
Ry turned to see the figure, and immediately rushed towards it, while Munchy followed close behind. Pax slid of Ry’s head to get a look. Ry touched the shape, which had turned out to be a man, in ripped clothing, huddled under a ragged blanket, trying to warm up. The man, was cold to the touch, and Ry immediately took action. He removed his long coat, and wrapped it around the man, the best he could. The man, clenched the jacket, like it was a gift from the gods. Ry reached for a particular Pokeball on his belt, releasing his Fire type partner, Fuego. Fuego understood, and crouched beside the man, using the fire on his head, to help keep the man warm.
Lifting the man up, who actually was quite short and small, Ry began to ran up the path, with his Pokemon in tow. He had chosen to not bring any Flying types, so he was trapped in that situation, so he had to run.
Two hours later, he was safely inside the Snowpoint hospital, which was a small, clinic sized building, due to harder to reach location of Snowpoint. The Nurse, had taken the man, who had hypothermia, away, to see the doctor, leaving Ry, alone in the waiting room, sitting by the window, and staring deeply at the snow. The sun’s rays were faded, and barely scraping the sky and ground, as it all began to set, and turning it into night.
“Ry Burst, uh, Mr. Burst? Mr. Waters is awake, and wants to see you.” A nurse called out. Ry stood up and walked towards the nurse, who was holding the door, and giving him a sideways glance. “Ry Burst? Is that even your real name? It seems made up?” She asked him as he walked past.
Ry gave an exasperated sigh, and said, “Yes, it’s my real name.” Then he walked towards, Mr. Water’s room. He knew the way, purely because he had asked for the room number a good while ago, and the hospital was small enough, that he would be able to find, room number 7 without help.
He entered the room to see the man, lying on a pale white bed, looking up at the ceiling. He was about middle aged and his skin, was a pale tan. His nose had crooked, and he had a balding spot.
The man, Mr. Walter, shifted his focus from the ceiling, to the boy, who walked in. “Thank you, Ry. You don't know me, but I know you. You've competed in the Sinnoh League. I saw your first challenge, back when you were a bit of a rookie still. And then I saw you're more recent challenge.” Ry quietly stood there, listening to man talk about accomplishments. “But anyways, I want to thank you for helping me. I don't remember what happened except for a group of men in jackets, robbing me. After that it is all a blurr.”
“Did you here a name of the group? Something they may have called themselves.” Ry asked, the mention of a gang immediately getting his attention.
The man looked at the boy and noticed the fire in his eyes. Something told the man that maybe this boy had a grudge against a certain gang. But there was no use hiding the truth from him, as he would find out eventually. “They called themselves the Sludge Boys.”
Ry closed his eyes, and didn't stir for a few seconds. This worried Mr. Walter. Not because of the lack of movement, but the way he responded to it. This proved the man’s earlier assumption, in his head.
“I don't know what you have against these guys, kid. And frankly, I don't care. They are dangerous, and they could possibly hurt, maybe even kill you.” Mr. Walter said, with a sudden harshness in his voice.
Ry opened his eyes and looked at Mr. Walter. “Sir, you said it yourself. I battled at the Pokemon League. I've been in quite a few, and I can stop these guys. All they ever do is cause trouble.”
Mr. Walter clicked his tongue, and shook his head. “You're naive, and you seem to be different. Something must be troubling you, and you feel stopping this gang will fix it. It won't, and only you can fix it. I'm more experienced than I look. I'm here to train you Ry. That's why you're here, right? To learn? Well, I'm your teacher, and tomorrow I will begin your training.”
Ry was shocked at this statement. The trainer, who was supposed to help him reach the next level, had been beaten by a gang of petty thieves, all gathered under the name of a gang. “Why didn't you defend yourself. I thought you were strong?” Ry shouted out loud, attracting the attention of some outside nurses.
“You'll soon learn tomorrow. But you need to be rested and ready, for tomorrow your training begins. I have taken the liberty of booking you in the Snowpoint Inn tonight. Go up to the desk and tell the clerk your name, and she will give you your room key. Tonight is the only time you will sleep there until the end of your training.” Mr. Walter said, with a slight twinkle in his eye, that seemed to be filled with the enthusiasm of a young child. Ry nodded and took his leave from the hospital.
After getting directions from some of the locals, Ry arrived at the Snowpoint Inn, just south of town. The place looked homey and quaint, which was something Ry always enjoyed in hotels.
He walked inside and told the clerk at the front desk his name. She gave him the key to his room, Room 2D. He stumbled up the steps, each one seeming to drain a small bit of energy from him. He ventured further, to find his room, and set his stuff in the nearby desk. Laying on top of his stuff was four Pokeballs, each containing one of his Pokemon. Tomorrow, his training would begin and they would all they stronger. A loud yawn escaped his lips and he understood what it meant. He could think about the training later but, now was the time for shut eye. He laid in his bed and quickly fell asleep, lost deep within his dreams.
