Sir Robin is a reference to Monty Python and the Holy Grail - also subtly indicating that Kirby isn't as heroic as he likes to think - and Whiplash is a reference to Snidely Whiplash, who is as vaudeville-villain as you can get.
That middle panel is one of the best things I've ever made.
