I looked up at the sky, admiring the many small flecks of white upon the dimness of the blue night. Letting go of the golden railing I started leaping around the small balcony, waving around my arms, pretending to swat the stars.
It was my favourite game. It being a means to ensure I got a good night’s sleep was just a bonus.
Once I had stopped playing that game, I tiredly walked back into my room and nudged the balcony doors shut. I heard a soft, sly laugh, unlike any I had heard before, that echoed around the palace; through into the upper-floor hallway and any rooms with open doors. Thus my room.
Though, of course, it could just have been a ‘call to the betweenworld plain,’ something that only I heard through my sheer drowsiness.
I lightly brushed through my silver hair with my hands, before flopping myself onto the soft, plum-coloured linen duvet atop my bed. Almost immediately my deep, violet eyes flopped shut, as I had completely worn myself out.
“Miss Maria, it is morning!” was the sound that woke me up, it had come from none other than Christopher, the dark red haired boy, who was also my best friend. He smiled, lowering his eyes at and down to me, “You really tired yourself out, did you not?” he asked.
At that, I noticed that I was wrapped tightly in my duvet, lying up against my bed.
“Uh... yeah. More so than I had thought.” I stated, bouncing about a bit in a pitiful attempt to get up.
“Would you like some help, Miss Maria?”
“No... I can... manage... thank... you...!” I said in-between flops.
“A-are you sure?”
“...Actually yes, please, that would be helpful.”
