Chapter 4 – Pidgey Pandemonium
Phoenix woke suddenly in Celadon Infirmary, gasping for breath. “Eevee!” Evie said, waking up from her own sleep on his lap. She jumped onto his chest and licked his face vigorously. “Awww…” Phoenix said. “Thanks Eevee. I only wanted to get you out of trouble.”
His mother rushed into the room. “Ooooh, Phoenix!” she said, being fluttery and over-reactive. “Are you ok? Are you hurt?”
“Mum, I’m fine. Can I go now?”
“Yes. I came to collect you.”
“Then let’s go!”
Several hours later, Phoenix was outside and practicing Eevee's attacks in preparation for the Celadon Gym. Rumor had it that many trainers that had challenged it had been defeated only seconds later. However, this was not the case anymore, as Aqua had supposedly beaten its leader. So, you could see why Phoenix felt so cocky, however this didn’t stop him from believing in Evie.
Phoenix felt like something was missing. Though he knew Evie would be able to PWN the gym, he needed a backup Pokémon just in case. Luckily, there were plenty of Pidgey in Route 7, the pathway directly between Celadon and Saffron City. A Pidgey would be perfect, as its Flying Type gained it an advantage against the Grass Type Pokemon inside the Gymnasium. And thus, Phoenix strode back to Route 7 to get his Pidgey.
Feathers fell from the heavens above as Phoenix strode around the grassy route, looking in all the nooks and crevices to find the Pidgey nest he needed. “Piiiidgggeeeyyy!” A shrill screech came from above as a shadow descended upon them.
In front of Phoenix and his companion was a small chicken like bird with brown and white feathers. It seemed to have a naturally aggressive attitude and an all-out tactic, exactly what Phoenix needed in his party.
Evie jumped to Phoenix's side. “Evie, let's start with a Tackle to weaken it, then see what it'll do. Then we'll strike while its preparing!”
Evie rammed the Pidgey with great force, yet it didn’t seem to even damage it, nor flinch it. Then, with great gusto, the little birdy unleashed a razor wind unto the fox. Slashed by the winds, Evie landed back on the floor with a minimal wound. As a comeback, the fox Pokémon leaped up to the bird and rammed it with maximal force. The Pidgey crashed down to earth, fainted. “Evie!” Phoenix stood there, shocked. “What was that?”-
Pulling up the Pokedex, Phoenix studied the fox’ move set, and tapped a big button exclaiming ‘What's New?’
“Eevee leveled up to Lv. 25!
Eevee learned Take Down! Take Down is an all-out move that damages the opponent greatly. However, the user is also damaged with its heavy recoil!”
“Take Down? Sounds great! Congratulations Evie!” Phoenix told the fox on his shoulder, who was also reading the Pokédex. “Now let’s get this…”
The fainted Pidgey had gone completely out of sight. “I guess it got away.” Phoenix said. “What was I thinking? You can handle the gym. We will best it with ease, especially with your new move!"
