Mario and Link are two of Nintendo's best heroes, and of course, there have to be alternate forms of them. And they don't do bad.

For this fight, both fighters will be using what materials they're used to. And since some of their power comes from the help of their partners, we will be allowing them in this fight, with the exception of the Triforce and the Star Sprites.

And we've set up traps and weapons throughout the arena...but who will win the Assault?

Toon Link wields the Hero's Sword, but he has plenty more.
The Hero's Sword can cut through grass (obviously) and is used for most occasions. But his best use of defense is his Hylian Shield...WHICH IS INDESTRUCTIBLE!
That's right Rotom, the Hylian Shield has survived hits from dark magic, huge swords, you name it.
But Toon Link has other swords, such as the Phantom Sword or the Master Sword. Preferably the Master Sword.
Hey Rotom. Toon Link has the Hylian Shield...but what else is his greatest defense?
What?
A BARREL! Being his size, Toon Link can squeeze into small cracks to collect those sweet sweet Rupees, and hide in a barrel to stay unnoticed when he comes across a Bokoblin he can't handle.
If only he could do that in the fight with Toon Ganon.
Oh yeah, and he has a bow.
Yeah. Anyhoo, Toon Link doesn't have just attacks, but techniques.
He wields the Wind Waker, a wand which allows him to summon...well...wind! And many other things, of course.
His Sand Wand can summon cubes of sand from the ground to launch at his opponents.
Toon Link also has bottles of fairies he can use to heal himself.
When he raises his sword, he can divide into four of himself...but they're all really hard to control. Which really sucks because they can all totem for four times the power!
But this guy has accomplished quite a lot.
He's saved his grandmother from death, helped Toon Zelda wake up from a forever slumber, and killed the being of darkness, Toon Ganon...BY STABBING HIM THROUGH THE HEAD FAR ENOUGH TO REACH THE LUNGS!!!!!11!!!1!!!
Ganon: AAAAAAARRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHH!
Ah...rest in pieces.
Oh yeah, he also has a boomerang and a ship called the King of the Red Lions. Which can talk!
But overall, Toon Link is one tough kid who you don't wanna get in the way of...even if he won't talk.

But this wasn't any normal ghost. He made books with stories in them.
It was a world where Shadow Queens, magicians, and stickers could cause mayhem. Even paint!
And what better hero to save the world than the one and only Paper Mario?
Of course, Luigi wasn't happy, but...was there really anything he could do?
At least he was in the book.
Mario has iron shoes, and of course, his trusty hammer.
Which can cause earthquakes and lift Paper Mario into the air like Thor!
This thing is made of wood, and yet it looks and plays cooler than its real-life stone counterparts! Wood beats stone, guys! Jot it down, 5-year-old Minecraft fanboys!
There's many things that Mario can't do like his real-life counterpart, but there's still a lot.
He has TONS of friends, each with their own abilities and uses in different situations.
If only I had that many buddies...

Don't forget his buddies! Like we mentioned before, he has A TON of them. Goombario, Kooper, Bombette, Parakarry, Bow, Watt, Sushie, Lakilester, Goombella, Koops, Madame Flurrie, a Yoshi Kid, Vivian, Admiral Bobbery, Ms. Mowz, Kersti, and Huey.
All of which have their own exclusive abilities and techniques, such as turning invisible or blowing away heavy objects. Also he can grab stuff.
But you shouldn't forget Paper Mario's ultimate moveset: The Things. Yes. They're literally called things.
The Things come in stickers or cards, and they are used for different situations.
The Scissors are mainly used in combat and can cut up enemies in groups, The Fan can blow away really heavy objects, and much more.
Then again, Paper Mario is made of paper, so even if he does use moves that look like they do a ton, they can do 6 damage at max.

Toon Link takes a quick swipe at Paper Mario, Hero's Sword in hand. But Paper Mario blocks, reducing the damage taken. Then it was his turn. Paper Mario raised his hammer and it shook in his hands as he slammed it onto Toon Link, but he blocked it with the Hylian Shield. Toon Link counters with a swipe to the face, knocking Paper Mario into the air, then Toon Link threw his boomerang to knock him back even more, and THEN shoot a barrage of arrows, piercing through Paper Mario. Huey, Kersti, and Paper Mario all pull them out. Paper Mario grabs his hammer, spins around, and hurls it at Toon Link, then uses a Fire Flower, and rapidly shoots fireballs. Toon Link blocks the hammer, but it damages it and Toon Link slides back. Letting his guard down, every fireball hits Toon Link, as Paper Mario runs up to him, picks up his hammer, and does a combo with it, damaging Toon Link severely. Toon Link shot another barrage of arrows, but Paper Mario deflected them with the Tanooki Leaf. By the time they reached Toon Link, he had already raised his sword and divide into four Toon Links. "WHAAAAT?!" said Huey. "Mario! We have to find a way to defeat all four at once!" Paper Mario nodded. Toon Link looked at his clones, as if saying Wanna play a game? They ran up to Paper Mario and started hitting all three around as if they were playing catch. Luckily, Paper Mario had the Tanooki Leaf still on him, so he knocked the swords out of their hands with his tail. Once they were all knocked out, the red, purple, and blue ones faded away. Enraged, Toon Link took the Master Sword off his back and raised it, giving him power from the gods. "I can do this, Mario." Kersti became a sticker on one of his cards. "Aw man, that was the best one!" Huey whined. Paper Mario looked at the card Kersti put her sticker on. It was the Scissors card. Paper Mario pulled out the Kersti Sticker and flipped the Scissors Card, powering up Paper Mario by a lot, and it spawned a group a scissors, who eventually launched themselves towards Toon Link, but he kept blocking with his shield. The scissors made grinding noises against the shield, as if they were saying "Yo. We got payed to do this. So we're not backing down." Paper Mario saw this as an opportunity, when the shield was thrown out of Toon Link's hand, and all of a sudden, the Scissors stabbed...right through him.

Paper Mario turns into an edgy anime character.
Okay, that was a bit brutal. Also, talk about under-usage of buddies.
Toon Link may have defeated demons more than once, but so has Paper Mario, and they've both done it a similar amount of times. But what set each other apart is that Toon Link fought the same villain, and Paper Mario fights different guys.
For those nerdy enough to care, Toon Link beat Ganon multiple times, and Paper Mario has defeated Bowser three times, all of them with an ancient evil, the Shadow Queen, and Dimentio.
We can compare Black Bowser to Ganon, being just a normal guy possessed by a, again, ancient evil. So imagine Paper Mario beating Black Bowser, but over and over. Is beating the same guy over and over really an accomplishment compared to another person who has defeated plenty others with the same, if not more power?
Ganon is Shadow Queen. I'mma go on Discord and ship them right now.
Even if Ganon is more powerful than all of the Paper Mario antagonists combined, Paper Mario can still be more powerful when his might is combined with Kersti.
Poor guy.
