Alrighty, @Baxter and Oliver, what I do first, is that I get a super light color. For example, I used a lavender-ish purple in this picture! After that, I create a new 'shade' layer. Then I draw on the shade with an air brush tool. After I draw on the shading, I use a blending tool to make the shading not as harsh. Aaandd boom! If you're wondering, I use paint tool sai to draw all of my pictures.

How do you do those side gradients? its dark but not too dark that the picture gets ruined.
