This weekend, I started my first Nuzlocke challenge on my Black 2 game, and I already lost my first pokémon in a matter of seconds, so I wanted to create a little piece to honor it.
Just like with my character Dale Hudson, I created a new protagonist for my Nuzlocke challenge, this time a spoiled brat & shopaholic girl named Julie who is forced to go on a journey to learn how to be more independent and confident. Though she'd rather stay home and max out her credit cards, she starts to grow attached to her pokémon and is struck with tremendous guilt and grief that she let her Patrat, Ivory (all of her pokémon are named after gemstones), get killed in its first ever battle. This scene shows Julie mourning over Ivory's death as she made a small grave with an ivory gem placed underneath while her Tepig (Rubeus) stands by her side to comfort her.
The way I did this piece was by first drawing the scene on a piece of hot press paper and then painting the background and Ivory's grave in watercolor. Then, after scanning it onto my computer, I redrew Julie and Rubeus on Photshop to give it a similar feeling to traditional cell animation. This is a mixed media style I've wanted to do for a while and I want to try and make this into a series along with my Nega-Mega evolutions
