If I Were a Gym Leader

by Hisseki

Hisseki What would I be like as gym leader?
I've watched several videos on what other people's gyms would be like if, for example, Game Freak allowed you to make a gym for Sun & Moon. Mine will not be solely for Sun & Moon (because the entire Pokedex is not out as of typing this), but still.

So, normally when I do Pokemon stuff, my go to types are Dark and Steel. I mean, Bisharp, Absol, Lucario, and Umbreon are all super cool, but that's not really what I want in my gym. I instead decided to stick with the Ghost Types. They are just... spooky! I love ghost types just as much as I love dark types. Trevenant is creepy, which I like, Mismagius is like a classic RPG mage's spirit, which is cool, and freakin' Giratina! Giratina! Ahem... anywho, my gym will be a ghost type gym. Yeh. It would probably be somewhere near the end of the line, like maybe 5th or 6th gym, 7th even.

As for the puzzle/gym's overall appearance... hate me if you will, but the gym will appear as an old abandoned mansion from the outside. Like, the wood is weathered, pieces are missing, the front is falling apart, and there's this dark looking aura emanating from the door. Also, I'm pulling a Tardis (if you get this, then yes) and having it literally be bigger on the inside. The main gimmick is "What lies in the dark". When you enter, you can see only the entrance area, as there are minimal lights in the building itself. In fact, it looks like there is no floor in some areas, it's so dark... though there are areas with no flooring. That is something I'll touch on later. Just past the entrance, you can see various floating purple flames, moving around. Suddenly, when you go to approach them, they scatter. In order to progress through to the gym leader (yours truly :p), you need to collect these flames and bring them to me. The layout of the gym will be a mix between a maze and a balancing act. Through some areas, there are simply maze-like obstructions, with trainers down some of the paths, much like Brawly's gym in the original RSE. There are, however, some areas where there is a thin walking space, and if you mess up, you fall into the void, taking you back to the start. Now, I can be extra cruel and say that if you collect any flames and fall into this void, they scatter again. I'm gonna be extra cruel >:D. The trainers within my gym are to be basically Hex Maniacs. They would have ghost types, particularly ones like Drifblim or Gourgeist, and psychic types like Kadabra or Musharna (just to switch it up a bit).

When you finally gather all the flames, you'll make your way to the end of the room, where a door, rather than opening, will suddenly disappear, leaving behind an eerie-looking portal that takes away the flames. You follow it, and you get transported into a room with four unlit candles, and a mysterious figure in the center. The flames from before will light the candles, and therefore illuminate the room in an indigo/violet hue. The mysterious figure will reveal itself to be the gym leader (me :D), and he will do his introductory lines.

"Hello there, young trainer."
"The spirits, they've warned me of your arrival. You've certainly built yourself a reputation, coming this far."
"My friends, the ghosts, want me to win, so this is where your journey will come to a close."
"We fight, and may the ghosts of this building have mercy on your Pokemon."

And then the fight starts! My team will consist of 4 Pokemon, modeled after Winona's team in ORAS. (So I guess I'll be the sixth gym then :p)

"This battle's outcome was predicted by my friends before it began..."
Dialogue upon Winning:
"My sincerest apologies, friends. I have failed to fulfill your requests..."

After beating him, the entire building lights up. You are now able to see everything in it's proper color, the violet flames being replaced by white flames. You will also be able to maneuver the rest of the gym without worry of inability to see. The defeated gym leader walks up to you and presents you with the Wraith Badge, which looks like vaguely like a Litwick flame, purple bordered with a white inner flame. He also presents you with the TM30: Shadow Ball, a move every Pokemon on his team is capable of learning. He also speaks.

"You have proven yourself worthy of the reputation you have gathered on your journey."
"I wish the best of luck to you in the future. I wish to battle you again in the future."
"I have yet to truly show you the extent of my friends' powers, but those will have to wait until you are much, much stronger than you are now."
"Until then, young trainer. Farewell."

With that, he vanishes into thin air, revealing a portal behind him that you can use to leave the building. If you return without beating the champion, then he will say this.

"Patience, young trainer. The time has not yet come for me to unleash my full power. That time awaits you in the future, when you are stronger."

If you have beaten the champion, then he will rematch you. First he speaks, then he fights.

"Well, well, well. You certainly have gotten much stronger than when we last met. My friends and I have anxiously awaited your return. "
"Now we have no reason to hold back. This is it! Hyahh!"

Dialogue after battle:
"Your journey continues to enthrall me. You have grown much stronger indeed, and you have stood up to the fullest wrath of my dearest friends."
"You have earned my fullest respect, and the title of Champion. Wear it proud, it suits you."

And once again, after the battle, he vanishes.

How was that? A little bit too in depth? Oh well, I spent about 7 hours trying to make this with frequent IRL interruptions, but I finally did it! I hope you enjoyed reading it. Here, to make up for your suffering after reading all of this and making it to the end without throwing your PC out of the window, have a pirate. :arr:
