So here's what happens when I get hit by the notion of a certain Gardenia that I am immensely fond of, taking a vacation from running her gym in Eterna City to travel through Alola with style, in a Decidueye-themed outfit - and with a Rowlet, because I can entirely picture her getting one.
I spent a WHILE working on this and I am very happy with the result. ^^

Pokémon are chimeric elemental creatures that would not resemble the terranean life they are based on in exact accuracy - in fact, a huge pet peeve of mine in more 'realistic' Pokémon art is when people simply draw an Earth animal with slightly funny colors and completely ignore anything about the Pokémon that makes it what it is.
Now, look at the official art of Rowlet, please (link to Bulbapedia provided). Note that officially, Rowlet does not have a heart-shaped facial disc, or much of a facial disc at all. Its beak is a bit of a mess, and its entire body configuration is ball-shaped. Now, a lot of this is an artifact of Sugimori's art style - but those are traits that Rowlet has. I acknowledge the barn owl inspiration and have thus pushed for a more heart shaped facial disc and proportions that aren't entirely ball shaped and more akin to a natural owl shape - but I still wanted to maintain these traits to an extent. Because, guess what? I was drawing a Rowlet - not a barn owl with leaves for primary wing and tail feathers.
Also, don't immediately assume that just because you like owls/are serious about them, you know more about them than the person you're trying to criticise. Biology is kind of my thing, y'know.Oct 10, 2017Pretty Pichu likes this. -
Rowlet is based of a barn owl but it resembles a mix between a snowy owl and a great grey owl(execpt without the large face).one thing to remeber is that barn owls have a heart shaped disk of feathers on the front of the face which the rowlet you have drawn does not have the feature.(i am very serious about owls)[creative corner crit]

She's holding her arm out to the side and her hand is in a fist. Thus the thumb is "facing the camera" so to speak. Stitching on the gloves might make it look a bit odd, but I've tested the pose myself, it is anatomically possible.

Pretty good, but, I've got a question, her right hand was supposed to be like that??? Her thumb is on the right part of the hand, and it should be on the left!

I've been waiting to see the finished product ever since you first mentioned it and you went beyond my expectations! I love how much detail you put into the outfit right down to the lacy frills on her shirt and shorts and even the green stitching on the boots. You really gave this one your best Stel and it shows! ^^
