Surprise Ponies: Fern

Continuing the trend of drawing characters from the roleplay comes Fern, a vampire bat mare who has had one hell of a rough time. Fern is my own character, and Peach's best friend. Meeting as children, the two bonded pretty quickly, but it was very shortly before they both discovered they had messed up lives. Fern, orphaned as a filly, lived in fear of everyone around her being dangerous, and in order to get by, she felt she needed to steal and hide. Being a vampire, she fed off any source of blood she could find, while also trying to avoid being caught by anyone. After Peach, however, she was able to find stable ground and learn to trust again. Which is a good thing, because she wasn't doing so hot on her own.

Now an adult, and having gone through numerous convoluted story arcs, Fern is engaged and also expecting a child- but is still very unstable mentally. She relies heavily on Peach and her fiance to keep her steady, especially considering the numerous, rather strange situations she's in. Not mentioning what it is, but it's a lot of cliche.

Fern's ears boast an unfair amount of sensitivity and range, allowing her hearing much greater than anyone should be allowed to have. In return, however, her eyesight is naturally poor, forcing her to rely on echolocation to get around most of the time. It didn't help that she lost one eye's vision to a tree after she crashed into it, negating her depth perception. She primarily uses her echolocation to see on a daily basis, so reading is still a pain for her. Which begs the question: do they have braille in Equestria?
