It is said that Gildelop lived on land in ages past. It is thought that they developed gills so that they could eat their favorite food, kelp.

Since they often run into Skrelp and Dragalgae while feeding, Gildelop have developed strategies to combat them.

Some scientists theorize that Gildelop first discovered its favorite food, kelp, while wading. They suspect that over time, it adapted so that it could better access its favorite food.
