Some pokemon scientists theorize that demon pokemon are from a nearby universe, like ultra beasts, and only arrived on Gaia relatively recently like humans. Others believe they are an evolution of sorts, the result of PokeGenesis in reaction to humans arriving on Gaia-- but they are known to predate the Second Crossing, so the timelines would seem not to support this.
Trivia: The pokemon world's (Gaia's) moon in my fanfic universe is called Selene, and Selene III was a mission to explore it. : ) Hoo hoo hoo
