(Does not evolve; there is only one step, and it is crab)
#090 - Hermean (hermit + mean)
Solitude Pokémon
Water/Variable-type
They aren't actually solitary, but they like having their own space to retreat to. As they grow they select a new home that fits their bodies. The shell they select can influence their secondary type. Shells, hollow rocks, fossils, plants, and even garbage are all fair game.
Possible formes:
- Normal shell: Water (This shell resembles Slowbro-Shellder but it can be any ordinary calcareous shell)
- Coral shell: Water/Rock
- Seaweed shell: Water/Grass
- Discarded pokéball: Water/Electric (Can also be different pokéball types)
- Treasure chest: Water/Fairy
- Crystal shell: Water/Crystal
- Omanyte fossil: Water/Ghost
(didn't draw these ideas because I got tired)
- Ice shell: Water/Ice
- Sea urchin shell: Water/Poison
- Discarded can: Water/Steel
- Discarded netting: Water/Dark
- Meteorite shell: Water/Cosmic
- Lost waterproof watch: Water/Virtual
- Glowing coral/algae: Water/Light
- A gun: Water/Fire
Base Stats: 75/55/115/55/115/55 (470)
Ability: Storm Drain/Weak Armor/[Overcoat]
Learnset: Bubble, Bubblebeam, Bubble Blast, Razor Fin, Vice Grip, Leer, Harden, Mud Sport, Mud Shot, Metal Claw, Crabhammer, Protect, Iron Defense, Spikes, Stealth Rock, Whirlpool, Spike Cannon, Shell Smash, Withdraw, Aqua Ring, Razor Shell, Hydro Pump, Pinch, Wave Breaker, Water Hammer (+ various type-appropriate moves depending on shell, with equivalents depending on type that will switch as type switches)
So how does the shell really work especially with your Gods and Demons spirit pokemon?: Basically at this point I'm thinking the small Hermean picks up actual garbage or hollow whatever and uses it physically as a shell, but as they grow in size/power they start to extract the idea of the shell from hollow things in their environment and therefore support a nonfunctional image of a pokeball the size of a beachball or whatever.
This was hard to do! Superficially I liked the idea of doing a hermit crab whose type changed with its shell but it feels sort of extraneous because the perfect hermit crab pokemon, Crustle, already exists. We out here having fun though.
