Ry stood there in his Tuxedo. He was in the contest hall, signing up for the pokemon contest. he looked around. Fantina, who stood to his left gave him a small nod. He wrote his name, and went backstage with the other contestants. It was a contest requiring two pokemon per round, so he had picked Fuego and Splashy for his pokemon for the first round. He would have to give a performance to show off his pokemon's beauty. He closed his eyes and waited for his name to be called.
"Now, welcome to the stage, Ry Burst, straight from Veilstone City." the announcer said waving his arms around for emphasis. Ry took the stage and set out his two Pokemon. "Bubble beam now!" Ry shouted. Splashy released a fury of bubbles that filled the stage.
"Quite beautiful folks, but sorry to burst your bubbles but," he paused listening to the audience's reaction to his joke. There was silence. "Mach punch Barage!" Ry shouted. Fuego jumped up and punched each bubble causing each one to individually explode.
Drops of water from the bubble sell down, simulating sparkles. "Now use Double Slap!" Ry should. Splashy wagged his tail quickly covering the field in water. "Ice beam! And Flame Wheel!" Splashy jumped and froze the ground, with ice, while Fuego burst into flames and rolled throught the ice causing slush to fly up. "Now thunder Punch!" Fuego rolled out his spin and punched the slush with electricity. It started to spark, and Splashy jumped on top of Fuego's head ending the performance.
Ry walked backstage, and waited for the results for the contest. When the other constants had finished, he walked up on stage with the other contestants. The contestants who moved on to Round 1, were being shown across the screen. Then there was only two spots. "The next spot goes to June Wilson!" The announcer shouted. A girl with curly brown hair, tucked back to one side and freckles across her nose, face apeared on the screen. There was clapping, and a few cheers and whoops.
"And finally, a surprise newcomer Ry Burst!" The announcer roared. There was clapping as Ry's face apeared ont he screen. Ry breathed a breath of relief. "Tomorrow, Round 2 will begin, and we will decide the winner!" The announcer shouted. The audience cheered.
Late that night, June walked up to Ry. "Is it really your first time here?" She asked him. He nodded. "Wow, what a great performance for an amateur." She said. Then she realized what she had said, "I didn't mean that you were a newbie or anything, but it was a good job on your debut."
"It's fine," Ry said, "To be honest, i didn't think I would make it past Round 1." he scratched the back of his head.
"Why, didn't you, you looked like you've been training for years!" June commented.
"To be honest, I've been training with Fuego with years, but for gym battles." Ry said.
"Who's Fuego?" She asked.
"He's my Monferno. I hatched him when he was only a Chimchar. We spent the last 5 years training with Maylene, at the Veilstone City gym."
"But why enter the contest?"
"I made a bet with Fantina. If i won, then i would get the badge, but if i lost i had to enter the Pokemon Contest. And i lost."
June smiled. "She's the Gym leader for a reason, but is also a coordinator. She takes Pokemon Contests very seriously."
Ry nodded and yawned. "Well good night," he said heading towards his room, "And good luck tomorrow."
"You'll need it amateur," she shouted jokingly. Ry smiled and went inside his room.
June sat at her table and leaned back. "He seemed fun," she thought to himself.
