The rest of the day that her Eevee hatched passed Terisa like a blur. There had been last minute arrangements to make, and goodbyes to her friends around town. Some of her friends had already begun their journeys, but then again there were some who hadn’t left yet, and even though they congratulated her, they were obviously jealous that she got to start her journey before them. And then of course, during supper, Greyden was grumpy and threw a small pouty fit, which put Sierra in her lofty mood. Terisa’s parents were also acting slightly different than usual, her mother noticeably more so. This made dinner ever so slightly uncomfortable, but Terisa was able to ignore it because she was wrapped up with plans for the next day, and watching her Eevee lap up a dinner of warm milk.
Terisa went to bed almost directly after supper, since she planned to wake up early and get going on her journey. She changed into a pair of Happiny themed pajamas, and then pulled the covers of her bed back slightly so she could slip into bed. Eevee sat on the floor, looking up at her trainer, who leaned out of bed and hoisted Eevee into the bed as well. Terisa had hardly let her new Pokémon leave her side all day. She cuddled the Evolution Pokémon, feeling the soft fur and the movements of the Pokémon as it began to fall asleep. Soon Terisa was falling asleep as well.

The next morning dawned bright and sunny... to find Terisa and Eevee fast asleep. The covers of the bed were askew, and the girl was curled up with Eevee still in her arms. The room looked nearly the same as the day before, but the black backpack which Terisa planned to carry her things in while on the journey now lay in the middle of the floor, and the room was also slightly less messy, as her mother had insisted that Terisa get her room tidied up before she left.
Terisa was eventually wakened when she felt Eevee licking her face. She opened her eyes to see the small, soft tongue flicking back and forth near her face, and then sat up. Eevee was standing on the pillow next to where Terisa’s head had been, tail wagging swiftly. Terisa climbed out of bed and changed into the outfit she had picked for the day: Blue Jeans and an Orange and White, horizontally striped shirt, and a belt which was hidden by the shirt. She left her hair down, and began to brush it while Eevee watched curiously. When she was done brushing her hair Terisa held out the hairbrush for Eevee to sniff.
“Whaddaya think, little missy? What does it smell like?”
There was a series of vees from Eevee, starting with interest at the strange new object, and ending with happiness as the Pokémon smelled its trainer’s scent on the brush. Eevee licked the girl’s finger, and then Terisa grinned and gave the Eevee a pet behind the ears, which the Pokémon seemed to enjoy. Terisa then slipped on her backpack, picked up Eevee, and headed towards the dining room to get some breakfast before leaving. Her mother and older sister were already sitting at the table, but her father and brother were not there. “Probably still asleep” Terisa thought. The two at the table looked up, their faces grave, with the mother’s expression holding traces of sadness as well, and Terisa felt a vague uneasiness as she sat down. Her mother cleared her throat and then began.
“Terisa... I won’t try to keep you from beggining your journey today. However, I should prefer that you find some traveling companions, but for now Sierra will be going a little ways with you. She is going over to Mt. Moon, and that is just outside Pewter.”
“What if I wasn’t going to Pewter yet, Mom?”
“Terisa, you know that that is the only way to go.”
“But Mom...”
“No buts, You will go to Pewter City and Sierra is going with you.”
Terisa grumbled to herself, petting Eevee. Sierra nodded in agreement with her mother, peering over her glasses.
“C’mon, little sis. It’ll be fun.”
“Fine...”
With that they dug into their breakfasts, Greyden and their father soon joining them at the table. Eevee was given more warm milk for her breakfast, and Terisa had a bowl of cereal. Once the table was cleared away, they all walked into the front yard. It was beautiful, with flowers everywhere along wandering paths, and patches of open, green grass here and there. It was designed to compliment the house, which was a tall, long building, with cream-colored walls rising up to meet the slate colored roof, and windows looking out onto the gardens. The house was honestly more of a mansion than a house, and the family’s friends often referred to it as Marleen Mansion.
The family each said their farewells, Greyden a bit grudgingly, and then Terisa and Sierra set off down the road, Terisa carrying Eevee and Sierra releasing her Parasect, Mycel, to walk alongside her. The sisters walked down the road in silence, as Sierra did not seem to be in a talkative mood. As they walked, they passed from the parts of town that Terisa knew so well towards the wild route that led North to Pewter, which was exciting to the girl. Soon she set her Eevee down to walk on her own, since the Pokémon was not overly light. At first the the Evolution Pokémon stayed close to her trainer’s legs, but soon began going farther away to sniff at various scents scattered around. The path was well trodden by the many people and Pokémon that traversed it, and it was bordered by trees that provided some shade from the late morning sun. The walk was uneventful; nothing more exciting than flocks of Pidgey flying by, and perhaps an occasional stir within the forest as a Pokémon skittered farther away from the path.

The sun was setting when they finally reached Pewter City. Terisa was more tired than she thought possible, and all they had done was walk! She had, of course, wanted to have her first battle against a wild Pokémon, but Sierra had stopped her, pointing out that her Eevee was still a baby and it was a very bad idea to battle at this point. Terisa had seen that this was irrefutably true, and had agreed not to battle. Now she was glad, because even carrying Eevee part of the way made her feel exhausted, and if Eevee had gotten hurt... Terisa shook her head as she trudged after Sierra, who seemed almost as fresh as when they left late that morning. In front of her, Sierra stopped suddenly, and Terisa almost bumped into her before she realized her sister was no longer walking. Looking up, Terisa saw that they had halted in front of a Pokémon Center. Sierra pointed at the door of the center as she spoke.
“Go inside and get us a room. We’ll sleep here.”
“Okay. Wait, aren’t you coming too?”
The older sister had turned and begun to walk down the street. She looked over her shoulder and waved.
“I have some business to attend to. I’ll be back in, maybe 30 minutes? An hour at the most.”
Terisa looked slightly puzzled, but turned and walked into the Pokémon Center. Like the exterior, the Pokémon Center was primarily white in color. There was a seating area with a few low tables and lots of comfortable looking chairs. As Terisa entered, a lady behind the counter located opposite the entrance called out to her.
“Good evening, and welcome to the Pewter Pokémon Center! What can I do for you this evening?”
“I’d like a room for myself and my sister, please.”
“Hold on for just a few minutes, while I go make sure the room is ready for you. Chancey, be a dear an take the counter for a moment?”
Through a door located behind the counter came a large, pink, almost egg-shaped Pokémon. Terisa recognized it as a Chancey, even without the nurse’s words. The nurse bent down behind the counter and came up with a key on a small ring, then exited the lobby by way of the stairs located to the left of the desk. While she was waiting for the room to be ready, Terisa sat down on one of the soft, comfortable chairs in the lobby and began petting her Pokémon. The Eevee was asleep at first, tired from all the walking she had done, but eventually she woke up to the feel of the girl’s hands on her back, stroking her fur. She gave a small cry to indicate that she was hungry. However, Terisa didn’t know that was what the Eevee was trying to tell her; she thought the Pokémon was simply enjoying the petting. The Evolution Pokémon continued to make the noise without success, but she was eventually rescued by the Chansey, who came out from behind the counter with a bowl of warm milk. Terisa was startled when Eevee squirmed out of her lap, jumped down to the floor, and began eagerly lapping at the milk. After all the milk was gone, she returned to Terisa’s lap, only to be made to move again as the nurse returned and led them to their room. Once there, Terisa stepped inside and looked around as the nurse closed the door behind her. There was a large window with pale blue curtains, a dresser, and two twin size beds with blue covers. There was a table with a lamp on it in between, and the floor was made of smooth wood. Terisa liked it. She claimed the bed nearest the window as her own, and climbed in, bringing her Eevee up with her, who curled up on the pillow, next to the girl’s head.
***************
A crack of light deeper into the room from the hall as the door was opened. Sierra peeked in, then stepped inside and locked the door behind her. She tiptoed quietly over to the bed where her younger sister was sleeping peacefully with her Eevee cuddled next to her head. The older girl gave a quiet smile, turned, and sat down on her own bed. She pulled the cord on the lamp on the table between the beds, picked a book out from her bag, and began to read.
