Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Academy: Chapter 2: A Threatened Secret

by Ry_Burst

Ry_Burst Reuben is a character from this story's sister series written by @Generation Sect. Louie find out about Colossal Fighter. Will Carter's secret Synchro card stop being a secret?
“Use the card! I know you have it! Use the damn card!” A red haired boy shouted. Strapped to his wrist was a duel disk and he was in mid-duel.

Across from him, his opponent was young Carter Davis. He looked beat up, but he was trying his best to stay standing, with his arm raised, and his duel disk up. “I draw!” Carter said weakly, as he swiped his hand across drawing his card. He lifted it up and gave a smile. “I don’t know what you’re talking about. I summon Marauding Captain, and with his ability I summon Hero KId. When Hero Kid is special summoned, I can summon as many Hero Kids as I can from my deck and hand. So I summon two of them, and my turn with a face down. His field was now Marauding Captain, three Hero Kids in defense mode, and Comrade Swordsman of Landstar, along with a face down card in the Spell/Trap card zone. He was all set up to summon his Synchro Monster, Colossal Fighter, which was level 8, but refused.

“Get him boys. You had your chance Carter. Now I’m going to kick your butt in this duel and steal your card myself.” The red haired boy said. Two kids appeared beside Carter and one punched the boy in the stomach. The other kicked him in the back, as he bent over in pain.

“Wagh!” Carter shouted, waking up in bed. It was an old memory that he had faced. That boy, Vance had really wanted to see his brother’s card, and Carter refused. So Vance had decided to try and take it by force. Carter was only 10 at the time, but he still refused to play the card. He just wanted to forget, but he couldn’t dispose of the deck. It still meant too much to him.

“What’s wrong?” Louie asked, sticking his head over the side of the top bunk as he looked at Carter. “It’s only the second day, and you’re already getting homesick or something?”

Carter stood up, and stretched his limbs. “No, I’m fine. Just a bad dream.”

“Must have been some dream. You were tossing and turning all night.” Louie commented.

Today was the boy’s first day at Duel Academy and they had managed to stay out of trouble. Carter was still nervous and he hadn’t told Louie about his card. Part of him wanted to keep it a secret. But he hated not being honest with Louie.

The two boys exited their room, and began to casually chat. Then, as they walked down the stairs and turned the corner, Carter ran straight into a blonde haired Slifer Red Student named Reuben. Carter’s duel disk slipped off, and his cards scattered everywhere.

“Crap,” Carter mumbled, squatting down, and beginning to collect his cards. Louie bent over to help, while Reuben got distracted with one card in particular. Louie handed Carter the stack he had gathered up, and they both focused their gaze on Reuben who was holding one card.

“This card yours?” Reuben asked revealing a white bordered card, Colossal Fighter. Carter made a lunge for the card, and snatched it, quickly putting it away.

“Wait, you have a Synchro monster?!” Louie asked in complete shock.

Carter scratched the back of his head and smiled sheepishly. “Yeah, my big bro gave it to me. Please don’t tell anyone.” He said. He quickly grabbed his duel disk and shuffled away. “I’m going to head to class now.” He said.

“Wait up!” Louie shouted, chasing after Carter. “C’mon, that’s pretty cool. You have a Synchro monster. They’re like crazy rare. Why keep it a secret?”

Carter clenched his fist. “I don’t know why I want it a secret, other than the fact I want peace. I don’t people to assume what I can do, because of the cards I have. Or more precisely, the cards my brother gave me. He built me this entire deck when I was a kid. Right before he died. Part of me is afraid everyone will think I have it because my brother was a pro and no other reason. That I’m just a wannabe and want to be like him.” A tear rolled down his cheek. He swung his fist and punched a tree. They were now away from the dorm, on the path to get to the main building.

Louie watched as the tree shook a bit and a few leaves floated down. “I won’t say a word. And the way I see it, you’re a good duelist, with your own skills. I saw that and lost to you. It’s cool. Your Synchro Secret is safe with me.” Carter wiped away the tear and two hurried off to class.

Little did the two boys know, but a Ra Yellow who was coming to deal with a few things that spiked his interests. A student at the academy had a Synchro monster. A Slifer Freshman of all people. He gave an evil grin, and stick his hands in his pockets, and began to head to class. His business could wait, for he had bigger fish to fry.

--Later--

"Finally, Lunchtime!” Louie exclaimed as both him and Carter exited the classroom. Carter stretched his arms as Louie’s stomach growled. “Professor Faye’s lecture sure made me hungry.” he said.

“Well it was long enough to make anyone hungry,” Carter said smiling. As they walked along and continued to chat, a boy in a Ra Yellow uniform walked behind them, keeping his eyes glued to Carter’s Duel Disk, where the boy’s deck was. He was the boy who had overheard the two earlier that morning. He knew about the card.

“Okay, no way Jackson Steel can beat Cameron Diaz in a duel. Come on, Carter. Think about it. Cameron’s flip deck is way better then the machine deck Jackson uses.” Louie exclaimed as they walked outside and onto the courtyard. The topic had shifted into the topic of pro-duelists. Carter and Louie were now headed back to their dorm to get lunch.

As they made the corner around brush, the Ra Yellow kid, made his move. He ran behind them, out of sight from any witnesses, and pushed them to the ground. He quickly snatched both boys deck, and hopped back up.

“Hey, that’s our deck. Give that back.” Carter demanded getting up. He made a fist, and the Ra Yellow student grinned. “Okay then. Duel me, after class. My name is Tom and I’m going to kick your butt. Also, as a note, if you lose the duel, I’ll keep your cards. And that includes your precious Synchro card.”

Before Carter could object, Tom kicked Carter in the stomach knocking the breath out of him and making him collapse and crash into Louie who was just getting up. While Carter was gasping for breath, Tom smirked. “Tell any teachers and I’ll rip this card to pieces. Now see you boys after class.” And then he took his leave.

The walk back to the dorm was silent, as both boys were too in shock to really talk. However as the dorm was in front of them, Carter stopped dead in his tracks. “I need to get a deck. I have to win back those cards. Do you have any cards I can borrow?” He asked.

Louie nodded and the two ran up the dorm room, grabbing all of their spare cards. As the two boys ate their lunch, they began to build a deck. It wasn’t very powerful and didn’t have a theme. They both knew that it would have to do, and Carter would have to win.

All throughout class, Carter was nervous. His stomach was doing backflips, while the teachers all talked, He zoned them all out and focused on any strategies he could use with his temporary deck.

And then the time came. After class, Tom led them to the courtyard. He had an evil grin plastered across his face as he showed them to the place they would duel. It was in the open, and anyone could see them

“Let’s duel,” Carter and Tom said in unison. Their duel disks were activated, and they both drew their starting hands.

“Also, before I forget to tell you Carter. I took the liberty of using your deck for this little spar. And you can have the first move.”

Carter froze as Tom said this. That only meant that if Tom summoned Colossal Fighter and Carter won, people would know he had it. If he lost, he would lose his brother’s deck. And not to mention that the guy had the liberty to use Kyle’s deck. Carter bit his lip, and clenched his hand. With his free hand, he drew his opening card, starting the duel.
