In 1996, Nintendo published Kirby Super Star for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. Instead of being one big game, it had tiny sub-games that made the whole thing. Spring Breeze, Revenge of Meta Knight, and The Great Cave Offensive to name a few.
It had a few minor flaws, but it went over well with fans and was titled the best Kirby game so far.
Hoping to keep the good reputation, HAL made Kirby's Dream Land 3 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System in 1997 and Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards in 2000. This is where Kirby games began to grow dark. These two games introduced Zero.
But the games just weren't as good, and people still played Kirby Super Star.
They remade Kirby's Adventure, which was a classic, and Flagship made two Kirby games, but Kirby Super Star was the classic.
HAL finally came to the best decision they've made in years.
Remake Kirby Super Star.

Bandana Waddle Dee and What He Represents
Kirby Super Star Ultra was amazing.
It fixed all of Kirby Super Star's mistakes, even if they weren't really mistakes.
But best of all, it was where Bandana Waddle Dee made his first appearance.
He was King Dedede's servant, where he was actually a boss...even though you could inhale him and defeat him easily.
It still made you feel bad for the guy, and he appeared later in Kirby Mass Attack.
But his appearance in that game wasn't important.
The real shocker was in Kirby's Return to Dream Land.
New Super Mario Bros. Wii was the first Mario game released for the Wii.
It involved 4 player co-op, which made it sell well.
So HAL was going to make Kirby's Return to Dream Land a single-player game, but they decided to add four players anyway.
Two of those players would be easy.
Meta Knight as Player 2, and King Dedede as Player 3.
But they needed a Player 4.
Now, let's see...
What Kirby character needs more attention, and is worthy of some main-series love...
Kirby Super Star Ultra got a lot of love from Kirby's Return to Dream Land, so of course, they chose Bandana Waddle Dee.
It may not seem like a big deal now, but when this baby was revealed to be playable, the squad. Technically. Exploded.
This was HUGE!
If I say Nintendo should be more like HAL, this is what I mean.
They took a weak and insignificant character, and gave him treatment!
Mario is great at giving other characters the spotlight, like in games like Luigi's Mansion, Wario Land, WarioWare Inc., Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker, Super Princess Peach, Waluigi's Taco Stand...
the list could and probably will go on.
Why not a Boo game? He's been a cool character that has appeared in many of Mario's games, both as a fiend and friend.
The Legend of Zelda kind of did this with Tingle, but it was only a duology, one of them not even being available in the Americas.
Bandana Waddle Dee grew to literally be officially labeled by HAL:
The Waddle Dee that should get the perfect attendance award.
Do I think Nintendo should do this with more characters? Absolutely.
It gives pleasure to those who enjoyed the character.
And seeing how big of a character he is now, you'd be suprised he had a small backstory.
You see, in the original Kirby Super Star, in The Arena, you could fight Arena Waddle Dee in the coliseum.
It was a random appearance and Arena Waddle Dee had no real significance.
Until Kirby Super Star Ultra, where he was replaced by a character with a similar moveset, Bandana Waddle Dee.
He serves as King Dedede's last resort in the mode Revenge of the King.
I almost felt bad for the guy.
Of course, it led to one of the best boss battles in Kirby history, Masked Dedede.
Which was awesome.
But Bandana Waddle Dee lived, as he is seen as the only member in the crowd in the fight against Masked Dedede.
And of course, he appeared in Kirby's Return to Dream Land and pretty much every game after that.
My point?
Any character is eligible for anything.
Remember the Villager in the background of Smashville in Super Smash Bros. Brawl?
Well, he made it in in the next game.
A simple minor character like Bandana Waddle Dee can become something big.
Every character has potential.
This is being the Dopest of Leafeon, and I hope you all have a fabulous day!
