As we left off, our heroes helped the oversized Clauncher rescue his captive friends from the clutches of the Freshwater Activist Company. Upon their rescue they learned more about Parteon, the new leader of a revised branch of Team Flare. They learned that Team Flare controls and sees everything that happens in the Kalos region. They also now realize their ultimate goal if they want to protect the world they live in. They have to stop Team Flare once and for all. For the sake of the entire world. Now, we watch as our heroes give a final farewell to the aquatic Pokemon and make their way to Shalour City for their third Gym Battle.
Ava stood along side Elijah as they waved Clauncher and the other crustaceans goodbye. With their friends returned to their rightful home, our heroes could now venture onwards in hopes of another victory and another step closer to the Kalos League.
Our heroes continued down Route 10 until they came across a roaring river which was impossible to cross by just walking. Unless of course you wanted to be swept up by extremely fast rapids. Ava noticed a sign by the edge of the lake and ran towards it. It was the schedule for the ferry and it ran every 30 minutes. Sadly, there was a big sign plastered against it saying "OUT OF SERVICE". "So how do you suppose we get across?" Ava asked. Elijah scanned the area and noticed a rickety old row boat down near the edge of the lake. Elijah looked at her and smirked, "Have you ever rowed a boat before?"
"Do people actually do this for fun?" Ava said as she dramatically tried to row her paddle as they drifted to the other side. The waves were very strong. It was nearly impossible to row against the current. Elijah laughed, he had to admit that it was pretty difficult. However, working together sure made things easier. It always did. Ava was paddling faster than Elijah, actually a lot faster. Elijah being noticeably calmer in their current situation knew that that kind of paddling wasn't necessary to get to where they were going.
If you have ever been kayaking, rowing, or something similar you would know that if you paddle at different speeds on both sides simultaneously, you don't actually move forward, but instead spin in circles. Well... that's exactly what our heroes were doing. "Um.. Ava?" Elijah asked trying to maintain the calmness. "WHAT??!?!" She yelled in reply having a mental breakdown. "I think we should.. um.. calm down and take this slowly. We're not exactly getting anywhere. We need to be paddling at the same speed." Elijah insisted.
Ava turned around with her eyes beaming at Elijah. "YOU WANT TO GO SLOWER?!?! IF WE DON'T HURRY WE'RE GOING TO BE SLAMMED INTO THE ROCKS!!" She yelled. Elijah sighed it was no use arguing with her when she got like this. He just sat back and put his paddle up so Ava could see what would happen. Eventually she started to notice that she was the only one doing anything. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING??!" She yelled in her crazy tone again. "I told you. We aren't going to get anywhere by going different speeds and I'm not wasting all my energy of paddling a stupid boat. So I'm just not going to do anything and we'll see what happens." He replied.
Ava gave up and sat he paddle down just like Elijah had done. She just started to cry, "I'm so sorry. I just have a really big fear of like... drowning.. and of water." Elijah sat up and put a hand on her shoulder, "You don't need to be sorry. It's my fault, I shouldn't have been so harsh on you." Ava stopped crying and tried to flash a smile, "I shouldn't have been so mean either. It's just, back when I was about 6 years old, my family took a vacation down to Ambrette Town for the weekend. It's a town here in Kalos known for their beaches and warm weather. We were sitting along the ocean and me and my big head decided it would be okay to go in the ocean by ourselves. I didn't really know how to swim at that point. Before I knew it I was being dragged out to the sea unable to keep my head above the water. Next thing I knew I woke up in the Pokemon Center being treated by Nurse Joy. The only thing I remembered before I blacked out was a pair of glowing blue eyes in front of me." Elijah pet her hair and hugged her, "I didn't know, I'm so sorry." He lifted his head up and noticed they were drifting towards the edge of the river.
"Now let's get going before we crash into those rocks behind us." He said smiling. Ava nodded and began to paddle in sync with Elijah. They finally managed to get to the other side of the river. After they finally scrambled out of the old canoe the noticed a sign that read "Geosenge Town - 0.5 miles". It was only a matter of time before they had the chance to obtain their third Gym Badge. Only a matter of time.
Upon attempting to cross a river full of extreme rapids, they learned a valuable lesson. Teamwork. Elijah also got more of a glimpse into Ava's past and more about her in general. All he wanted was to be the best friend he could be to her and make her happy. That's what he was going to do.
