Ava and Elijah were already on the road headed to the Second Gym. Elijah was studying his Pokeball which contained his new friend, Froakie. "I can't believe you found your father's Pokémon, from such a long time ago at that!" Ava exclaimed. Elijah nodded, but didn't say anything back. "Are you alright?" Ava asked. "Ever since you came back from the forest, you've been acting weird." Elijah sighed, "I just don't understand why Froakie chose to come with me. We just met and he was already in my Pokeball. We had no interactions what so ever. I just find it strange." Ava understood his point, it was strange. "But still, I doubt Froakie would have came with you if he didn't want to. Just give it some time, train together, form a bond." She replied. "Oh yeah! I saw this advertisement on TV for a Pokémon Showcase. Trainers get to show off their talent outside of battling with their Pokémon. I was wondering if you would take me. It's a month from now and will take place in Lumiose City." She continued. Elijah looked up and smiled, "Of course I'll take you. Sounds very fun. Plus, Lumiose is the location of the fourth gym in Kalos, so it's perfect. Ava silently celebrated to the wonderful news.
After another half hour of walking, they noticed a huge sign to their right. It read:
The Battle Palace: Face against other trainer in 1 on 1 Pokémon Battles! The winner receives a very special prize. Free entry, located at the St. Merfont Palace at the next fork in the road! We cannot wait to see all you magnificent trainers!
Elijah turned to Ava, she knew what he was thinking. "Let's do it! We may not win, but having fun is the best part! Plus, you can train with Froakie, so it's perfect!." She told him. It was settled, they were entering The Battle Palace tournament. A couple of minutes later they came across a fork in the road. A sign read:

"After we're done at the Battle Palace, we just come right on back and head to Cyllage City, it's perfect!" Ava said happily. The sun was at its highest point in the sky, that meant it was noon. They had finally arrived at the front gates to St. Merfont Palace. They were greeted by a man in a jester outfit. "Welcome to the Battle Palace, my name is Samuel. The official greeter of St. Merfont Palace." said the jester. He pointed a nearby wooden table, "You can sign up over there. Remember, only one Pokémon per contestant, and most importantly have fun. Once your done with that take it to the other person inside the castle!" He continued. Ava and Elijah obeyed and pulled out a sign up sheet and began filling it out. The sign up sheet had odd questions on it, but they didn't seen to bothered from it. It read:

They both stopped at the question, "Name of Your Lover". None of them had a boyfriend or girlfriend. Then they looked at each other, they had to put something. Ava wrote down "Elijah" and Elijah wrote down "Ava". They both decided they wouldn't tell the other what they put, as it was awkward. They finished the sheet and walked towards the front door. It was massive. Another person wearing a jester outfit greeted them. She asked fore their sheets and motioned them through the door. They were split from each other and sent into dressing rooms.
Inside, were the fanciest clothes any of them had ever seen. Ava found a cute pink dress that went down to her feet. Maybe not the greatest piece of clothing to battle in, but she was going to respect their customs. Elijah found a nice suit and tie, with matching pants, and shoes. He was given a Red Rose to slide in his suit pocket, an extra touch. Ava was given a Red Rose as well to put in her hair. They were then lead to a main hall. In the Main Hall were dozens of other Pokémon Trainers all dressed in fancy attire. Each with a different color Rose. Ava saw Elijah standing at the other side of the Hall and trotted over to him. She tapped him on the shoulder and he spun around. "Wow... You look... great..." Elijah said speechless. Ava blushed, "You look pretty great too,"
"Attention!" A loud voice roared over an intercom. A figure appeared in the balcony above, "I am your host, Olivia!" The voice said. "If you don't already know me, I am the host of every wonderful Pokémon Showcase that takes place here in Kalos. With me today I have the Champion of the Kalos League, Alan!" The crowd went wild over the Champion's presence. Alan bowed to the audience, "Thank you all for joining us today!" Alan said excitedly over the intercom. "Today's events will consist of 1 versus 1 Pokémon Battles. The winner of those will be paired into groups of two for our Double Battles! The winning team of the Double Battles will take place in another set of Double Battles! And once again, the last two remaining teams, will face each other head on for the title of "Battle Palace Victors"! Good luck to all those competing. Now let's get on to the first round. Trainers, please look at the screen on the wall, you will be battling the person you are paired with on screen."
And with that, trainers were scurrying around left and right to find their opponent in which they would be battling. A girl about Ava's age came up to her saying that she was her opponent. With that, Ava was gone, and already in her battle arena. Elijah saw a man in a yellow suit, that was his opponent. Soon enough he too was in his battle arena with his opponent. Olivia came back over the intercom, "Seeing as all trainers have found their partner in which they will be battling and their arena, the referees may come out. Each arena was designated its own referee to fairly judge the battle. "3... 2... 1... Begin!" Alan roared.
