“Who’s next?” Valerie asked ready for her next challenge.
Alex stepped up and asked Ava if he could go and she obliged.
Alex ruffled his hair and took his spot on the battlefield opposite of Valerie. He cracked his knuckles and was ready for battle.
Valerie smiled and threw out her next Pokeball which contained a charming Mr. Mime. Alex nodded and released his Pokemon, Aegislash in its shiny variant.
“Oooh.. Pretty!” Macy commented on Alex’s Pokemon.
The referee motioned that the battle had begun.
“Swords Dance!” Alex called out, boosting his Pokemon’s attack power.
“Punish that move with Psychic!” Valerie called out.
The Psychic took hold of Aegislash and slammed it into the ground.
Mr. Mime then followed up with Dazzling Gleam which was a direct hit, causing minimal damage due to Aegislash’s steel typing.
“Fight back with Sacred Sword!” Alex called out.
The attack was met with a Reflect that nulled all damage. Mr. Mime countered with another Psychic and Aegislash was thrown on to the ground yet again.
“Dazzling Gleam once more!” Valerie continued.
The Dazzling Gleam was blocked by a quick King’s Shield from Aegislash.
“Let’s win this now! Night Slash!” Alex called out.
Hit.
“Sacred Sword!” He continued.
Hit.
“Finish it with Sacred Sword again!” Alex commanded.
Mr. Mime had fainted.
Alex cheered and thanked his partner, Aegislash. He took his badge with pride and returned to his friends who congratulated him.
It was now time for the final challenger, Ava.
Elijah put his hand on her shoulder and reassured her that she could win. She smiled and nodded as she walked to her spot on the battlefield.
“It’s time for my last challenger at last. Can you follow up your friends and win this battle? I must warn you, this Pokemon and I are very close to one another. We won’t go down easily.” Valerie told Ava.
Valerie released a Sylveon as her Pokemon. Ava thought for a second and decided to release her Sylveon as well. It would be an interesting battle for sure.
“It seems as if my Pokemon and I aren’t the only ones with a strong bond. Let’s see how you fair.” Valerie commented.

“Start off with Quick Attack!” Valerie commanded.
“Counter with your Quick Attack!” Ava commanded.
The attacks collided and both sides received damage.
Ava then countered with Moonblast to which Valerie countered with Dazzling Gleam.
The match was looking even. Valerie seemed as calm and cheerful as ever. She was enjoying the battle. Ava, however, was growing increasingly nervous. She wasn't used to fighting even battles.
“Sylveon, leap into the air and used Swift!” Valerie called out.
It all happened so fast. Ava didn’t have time to react to it. Her Sylveon took a hit to the face and was blown backwards.
“Swift again and again!” Valerie yelled.
Ava’s Sylveon was bombarded by Swift after Swift and was overpowering her. Her Sylveon was waiting for a command but Ava was just frozen. She was losing.
“Ava! You have to attack. You can’t just stand there!” Elijah called out.
“You can do it, Ava!” Macy called out after him.
Ava was too worried to hear her friends.
“Wrap this up with Quick Attack!” Valerie commanded.
Ava lost.
She returned Sylveon and ran out of the Gym, not waiting for anything.
