They called her Pascale

NonAnalogue Pascale means a lot to me.

Something like six years ago, I wrote an urban fantasy manuscript - my first attempt at anything past 15 pages. I called it Another Winter. In it, Pascale Brady's best friend gets kidnapped and she brings the fight to Creative Designs, the shady corporation she believes to be responsible. Along the way, she meets up with Cosmo King and David Siello, who both have their own reasons for investigating Creative Designs. I set it in my hometown and generally had a good time writing it.

They always say that you shouldn't try for your magnum opus first thing. Another Winter went through several stages, but I eventually shelved it - there were a lot of parts of it that I was unsatisfied with but wasn't sure how to fix. In the meantime, I wrote another manuscript that I think turned out a lot stronger set in my fantasy setting, Ennen.

That led to this. I love the characters I designed for Another Winter, Pascale especially. She was always a character I could write easily for, since I put a lot of myself in her. (She even turned out to be trans. Funny how that works.) So I think my next writing project will be another stab at Another Winter, but this time I'm going to set it in Ennen. A lot will have to change about the story, but I'm excited at the prospect.

The art above is Pascale's redesign for this setting. I kept a lot of the elements from her original design, including the color scheme, the hurricane symbol, and the gigantic boots. Yay!
