Clash of Code: Spy vs Skye! (Team Fortress 2 vs Paladins: Champions of the Realm)

by Mechanist Gamma

Mechanist Gamma In the aftermath of Fernando vs Heavy, the briefcase has been taken to Stone Keep for safe-keeping under the orders of a mysterious figure. The frenchman with no known name is tasked by the Administrator with retrieving the briefcase, but the opposing team’s spy is wise to his tricks. Who will survive the assassin’s duel…?

In Clash of Code, two fighters from across the gaming universe will be pitted against each other in a no-holds-barred death battle. All moves, skills, attributes and powers will be taken from their respective game franchises. (And from fighting game spinoffs, if they exist.) Partners in Coding: @SismicFlareCharmander, @Mewtwofan259, @Lord Of Pain, @Il Fantasma
Happy pre-Halloween, folks! It’s been over a month since the last one, so it’s time for another Clash of Code! (HA HA MY SCHEDULE IS HORRIBLE) In all seriousness, sorry about this taking so long. However, since my birthday is coming up soon, I’m going to give myself a present in the form of actually getting two Clash of Codes done within a month! Stay tuned for the next Clash of Code - it’ll be a good one! WHOOSH!

Sismic: Who doesn’t like a good spy flick?
Fanta: When it comes to sneaky spies, they need to have certain skills. They must be able to remain undetected and eliminate roadblocks while remaining undetected, as a second in the spotlight could be their last.
Mewtwo: So we’re gonna have them fight each other! Skye, the Twilight Assassin of the Realm
Pain: And Spy, the sneaky assassin from France.
Sismic: I'm @SismicFlareCharmander, and these folks are @Eeveechu151, @Lord Of Pain, @Il Fantasma, and @Mewtwofan259.
Eeveechu: Today, we'll be pitting these two against each other in a fight to the finish. An end-all battle. A Clash of Code.

Pain: ...uh, what kind of costume is that?!
Sismic: If you think that’s bad, you haven’t seen the Heartbreaker…
Eeveechu: Clickbait aside, Skye is quite the deadly warrior. She’s a master assassin. But where did she learn this craft? Well, thanks to our insider at Hi-Rez Studios - who shall not be named…
Sismic: *twiddles thumbs in the background*
Eeveechu: ...we’ve managed to get our hands on this handy-dandy lore file for Skye! Let’s see here- WHA?!
Trenton: Uh why did the lights just go out?
*lights turn back on*
Pain: Gah! The file’s gone!
Fanta: Skye took it!
Eeveechu: Aw, crud. Well, guess we can just skip lore for now. Skye is a Flank class, and she specializes in hunting down and eliminating foes on their own. Her low movement stat of 365 forces her to use her stealth and stalk her foes in order to get the kill.
Sismic: However, she’s extremely frail. Having a low health pool of 2000, she’s one of the weakest characters in the game, especially when compared to characters like Fernando.
Pain: Her main weapon is her wrist crossbow, which deals 140 damage every .1 seconds. She can also arm these with poison darts, three being fired in succession. Each dart lasts for four seconds and deals 10% of the foe’s maximum health. A slow and painful death… no, actually, it’s pretty quick compared to actual poison.
Fanta: Skye also possesses two main stealth techniques - her smoke screen, which creates a cloud of darkness that lasts five seconds, blocking enemy vision in and out of it. Entering the cloud also give Skye cover for three seconds. Then there’s Hidden, a state that she can enter where she becomes invisible for 7.5 seconds and gains 25% more movement speed. However, getting close to an enemy in this state will still reveal her.
Mewtwo: However, Skye’s most powerful weapon is her ultimate - the Time Bomb, which will detonate after 2.5 seconds, and deals 3000 damage as well as destroying all shields. In order to activate, however, it needs to stick to a solid surface.
Eeveechu: Skye also has a deck of cards she can use. With Cloak, she can extend her invisibility by two seconds. With Decrepify, her Poison Bolts can reduce healing by up to 80% for three seconds. Healing Vapors allows her to regenerate at most 400 health over four seconds, Ninja allows her to gain up to 32% more movement speed while Hidden, Slip Away lets her gain 20% more movement speed while out of combat, Specter makes the Smoke Screen last four seconds longer, and her Legendary Cards Debilitate and Surprise Attack allow her to deal 33% more damage with her poison darts twice as fast and deal 500 extra damage when exiting Hidden respectively.
Sismic: Overall, this gal is a killer.
Skye: You don't look so tough!

Sismic: France. A country of croissants, berets, and the Eiffel Tower. Not really known for their Spys, are they?
Eeveechu: Est-que c’est vrai, mon ami?
Mewtwo: But for whatever his name is, this was different.
Fanta: The Spy is a man of sharp Suits, even sharper knives, and a whole lot of tricks up his sleeves.
Pain: By tricks, we mean a crap-ton of weaponry and gadgets to confuse, infiltrate, and destroy.
Eeveechu: Guns such as the Big Kill (40 Damage) Enforcer (48 Damage, yet 20% more when disguised), or L‘Etranger (32 Damage, but 40% longer cloak), and sneaky knives like the Black Rose (40 Damage) or Spy-cicle (Also 40 Damage).
Fanta: This Spy-cicle will turn a victim to ice if they are backstabbed with it!
Sismic: But the real power of Spy comes from his Gadgets. There’s the Red-Tape Recorder, which will disable the technology of an enemy and slowly reverse the construction.
Pain: Yeah sure, Guns, Knives, and Sappers are cool and all, but there’s a reason that Spy has earned that name.
Mewtwo: You mean how he can sneak up on any woman and-
Pain: I’m just going to stop you right there.
Eeveechu: We’re not talking about Scout’s mother, here! HEYO!
Pain: No, Spy can disguise himself with the disguise kit. It can allow him to turn into an enemy or ally, confusing opponents. Though, this wears off when he attacks, and he has the speed of whoever he is disguising, but almost nobody can ever see this coming.
Fanta: If you stab an enemy in the back while disguised, you can kill them in one hit.
Sismic: There’s also Spy’s ability to cloak. With the Dead Ringer equipped, Spy can get a speed boost when attacked, reduce damage, but most importantly, turn Spy invisible for 7 Seconds when he receives damage.
Eeveechu: While Spy is invisible, a fake corpse drops, most likely dropping the opponent’s guard and letting Spy move in for the kill.
Mewtwo: Oh, but don’t worry. Spy has many more ways he can kill you. He’s like a walking Saw Trap. Speaking of which, go see Jigsaw. It’s a good movie. I especially like when-
Eeveechu: No. We’re not becoming sellouts! Also, no spoiling it. Y’know, in case anyone wants to see it.
Fanta: Back on topic, Spy seems to be good at fencing, because he has a special ability to make two quick slashes and a powerful jab with his Black Rose.
Sismic: With only 125 HP and 107 Speed, Spy can’t take that many hits, and his attacks aren’t very powerful, but his overwhelming strategic value makes him perfect for the support set.
Pain: You may want to rethink that. In the Mann vs Machine update, the Robo-Heavy was introduced. Spy can backstab it and take it out in one hit. Tom?
Tom: We figured out in Fernando vs Heavy that the Robots are most likely made of a light, powerful, new metal known only as Gupta’s Metal. This metal is extremely powerful. It can withstand 25,000 pounds of force per square inch. Robo-Heavy is about 6’4 feet tall, or 76.8 square inches. 76.8 x 25,000 means that Spy, with only one hit, can backstab with 1,920,000 Newtons of Force.
Mewtwo: But what has driven Spy to become like this? No one knows… Except for us. We have an insider, who just so happened to lend us Spy’s Backstory.
Eeveechu: Yeah, about that… There may or may not be a ninja who stole all of our files.
Fanta: Lore aside, Spy is easily one of the most powerful classes in TF2, and without a doubt the most unpredictable.
Spy: Oh, you got blood on my suit.

Sismic: Alright, the contenders are set!
Pain: From the Realm and France!
Fanta: It’s time for a Clash of Code!

A soft whoosh was heard in the middle of Stone Keep, as the Spy decloaked. The frenchman walked forwards to the control point, the red briefcase placed on top of it.
“Hm hm hm… leaving something this valuable out in the open like this?” Spy said with a smile, picking up the briefcase.
“ALERT! THE ENEMY HAS TAKEN OUR INTELLIGENCE!” a voice cried out.
“How do they even have that here?!” Spy said, throwing his arms up in the air. “How many people does that woman have in her network?!”
“I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Skye said, jumping down from the ledge above and landing on her feet. “But I do know that if you drop that briefcase and leave, I’ll let you keep your life.”
Spy spun around to face her, pulling out the Big Kill. “I don’t make deals like that.”
“So we’re doing this the hard way, then.” Skye said, reloading her wrist crossbow and pointing it at Spy.
“I’m afraid not.” Spy said with a smirk, popping a cigarette in his mouth. “Killing you will be easy.”
Mewtwo: Live or let spy!
Eeveechu: Battle begin!
Skye shot at Spy with their Crossbow, but Spy disappeared into the shadows, leaving Skye confused. Spy appeared again behind Skye with the Black Rose and swung. Skye flipped out of the way and set down a smokescreen. Spy looked around, trying to spot his enemy. Skye shot bolts in rapid succession towards Spy. Once the first few hit him, Spy ducked behind a wall and equipped his Big Kill, before he fired a few blasts in Skye’s General Direction. Skye grabbed the dropped briefcase before being hit. She ceased her fire, seeing that Spy was out of ammo in his clip. The two both stepped out into the light.
“I underestimated you.” Skye muttered. Spy pointed his gun at her.
“Briefcase. Now!” Spy said, stepping forward and reloading his gun.
“Not a chance!” Skye said, quickly raising her wrist and firing three poison darts. Two of them hit Spy in the arm, and he recoiled before fleeing and vanishing. “Gah! Get back here!” she shouted, firing outwards. None of them hit. She heard footsteps coming towards her, and aimed in that direction. She stopped herself from firing once she noticed it was Cassie. “Cassie! What are you doing here?”
“I heard shots and came as fast as I could!” Cassie replied. “What’s up?”
“We’re in a bad situation.” Skye said.
“Is Fernando trying to court us again?!”
“Okay, it’s not that bad.” Skye replied. “Listen. There’s this spy in the base, and he’s trying to steal this briefcase. That person sent us to get it for him, and we can’t let him down. Let’s split up and look for him.”
“Right!” Cassie responded, and the two ran off in opposite directions out of the room.
From the ledge above, Spy decloaked and smiled. “Interesting…

TEN MINUTES LATER
Skye reentered the room, intelligence still in hand. Cassie ran in at the same time.
“Cass, you find him?” Skye asked.
“No, no sign of that guy.” Cassie replied. “It’s like he vanished or something.”
“Damn it! Where could he be…?” Skye asked, turning away from Cassie.
Suddenly, Cassie took out a butterfly knife and walked right up behind Skye. “Right behind you.”
Skye barely dodged out of the way of the downwards-swinging knife, Spy’s disguise vanishing. The two pulled out their guns and began to shoot at each other, both ducking behind cover before getting hit.
“Dirty trickster! Where’s Cassie?!” Skye asked, loading some poison darts in.
“She’s safe.” Spy replied.

Meanwhile, Cassie was trapped in the corner of the map, tied out and struggling to get out of her bonds.

The poison that Skye injected into Spy was started to take effect, but Spy would not show weakness. Spy once again turned invisible, making circles around Skye. Spy pulled a L’Etranger out, firing multiple shots at Skye. Skye was hit a few times in the back, and Spy’s Cloak was disabled. He grabbed his Butterfly Knife again and snuck up behind Skye, but she turned invisible and got out of Spy’s range. Spy then reloaded, looking around. Suddenly, Skye - while Hidden - dropped down a smoke screen. Spy coughed a bit, swinging his gun around. Suddenly, he heard something drop behind him.
“Time’s ticking…~” Skye said, running out of the room. As the smoke cleared, Spy saw the bomb placed down.
“Oh, merde…” Spy said as the bomb exploded. Spy flew across the room, hitting the wall hard enough to instantly snap his neck. Spy’s corpse fell to the ground lifelessly.
KO!
Skye walked over to the fallen body, picking up the briefcase that had been thrown across the room by the explosion. “No hard feelings - just business.” Skye then turned around and began to walk away.

...that was when Spy closed the Dead Ringer, smiling as he decloaked loudly.
Skye instantly turned around, preparing to fire. Spy quickly took out a sapper, flinging it straight at Skye’s wrist crossbow, causing it to short circuit. Skye threw it off before she was electrocuted, but she was then knocked in the head by Spy’s elbow. Stumbling backwards, Spy dashed behind her and whipped out the Spy-Cicle. He stabbed her straight in the back, and Skye turned into solid ice. Spy then went behind her and pulled out his pistol.
“Au revoir, mon ami.”
Spy fired straight at Skye’s head, causing it to fracture into thousands of pieces.
KO!
Spy took the briefcase back as the ice statue fell over, completely shattering. Spy casually walked away.
Fernando noticed Cassie tied up, and went over to help her. As he did, he offered her a rose, which Cassie kicked away.

Sismic: No the Paladins character ;-;
Eeveechu: Sorry, Sismic. But, well, Spy says it best.
Spy: The outcome was never really in doubt.
Mewtwo: Spy had almost everything on his side. Is this a time for the chart?
Eeveechu: No, actually. Pain, load up penny.ai for me, will you?
Pain: What kind of program is that...? Alright, sure. Loading up the file…
PENNY.AI 13% LOADED… 26%... 43%... 72%... 98%... 100%...
Tom: What in the world is that thing?
Penny: Hello there, folks. Nice to meet you.
Mewtwo: WHAT THE?!
Sismic: ...you actually made it.
Eeveechu: Made HER. Ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to present Penny, my AI companion.
Penny: Greetings! I’ll get the chart for you, John.
Fanta: That… actually looks really close. “Had almost everything on his side”, huh?
Mewtwo: Said chart doesn’t take into account the fact that Spy could counter almost all of Skye’s advantages. Tom?
Tom: Well, on the surface Skye seems to edge out, Spy has more tactics and overall strength. That Robo-Heavy, if it’s really made of Gupta’s Metal, requires over 1,900,000 Pounds of Force to break, and Spy can do it with just one hit. Endurance and Strength don’t matter. Especially not when Spy can play with Skye’s mind using his Disguise Kit or Dead Ringer. Also, John, can you explain to me why you have that thing?
Penny: RUDE! For one thing, you all have been calling it the wrong thing. It’s the Heavy Robot, not the Robo-Heavy.
Eeveechu: ...wow. Uncreative name is uncreative.
Penny: And for another thing, Tom, those calculations of yours are incorrect. Spy DOESN’T have the implied strength, as the insta-kills these calculations are made for are exclusive to Spy’s back-stabs. Any frontal attacks lack this amount of power. It’s likely that Spy is hitting some sort of vital joint in the robots to cause them to fail instantly.
Tom: *Machine Gun* You want to take this outside? One successful backstab can kill any class or Robot, no matter what. I’m sure this applies to Skye as well.
Penny: Not arguing that, just that he lacks the implied superhuman strength. He also doesn’t have good endurance - he can be killed by getting slapped with a fish a bunch of times. A FISH.
Fanta: Spy has the Stealth advantage because he can fake his own death. Something that is impossible for someone who has never seen Spy to predict. With Spy apparently dead, Skye lowered her guard.
Pain: A fatal mistake for her, as Spy was apparently still alive. And with the element of surprise, the kill was practically guaranteed. But that actually makes me think, John. How did Spy survive the blast? The Dead Ringer can’t prevent Spy from getting killed.
Eeveechu: And that’s the main reason we have Penny here. End of battle recreation, if you would?
Penny: Right away!
LOADING 1%... 43%... 86%... 100%
Penny: Taking a look at what happened near the end there, Spy became sloppy and slow thanks to the poison. Spy was unable to stop Skye from running in and placing down her bomb. He only became more confused thanks to the smokescreen hiding the explosive. However, Spy was able to react in time. The blast didn’t kill him - in Paladins, Skye’s blast can no longer one-shot the majority of classes (Skye excluded) but does deal quite a bit of damage. The recoil is also an important factor, and there’s no way Spy could block it - even if he did have a shield, it would have broken it. But Spy had the Dead Ringer, and so he was able to catch himself against the wall, allowing the Dead Ringer’s fake-him to get his neck snapped instead. Spy had the obvious advantage in close-quarters, and Skye had no weapons that could deal with Spy once her wrist crossbow was destroyed by Spy’s sapper. And before people argue about it, it’s high-tech weaponry, so the sapper was able to take it down. It was a matter of seconds before Spy got that fatal hit in.
Sismic: Sadly, Spy was also able to get the upper hand in turn of tactics. Spy’s disguise would have tricked the Classic Sniper (not to be confused with TF2’s Sniper) into thinking he was the Classic Engineer. Only reason it didn’t work is because the Classic Sniper got an eye implant that let him see through disguises. Otherwise, according to the Classic Sniper himself, it would have worked. And the Classic Sniper and Classic Engie had known each other for most of their lifetimes. That’s why Spy’s disguise of Cassie worked so well.
Penny: Spy just had Skye out-classed.
Sismic: Hey, it’s my turn for a pun! Looks like the frenchman was able to reach for the Skye!
Mewtwo: ...Penny had the better pun.
Eeveechu: The winner is Spy.
Spy: But of course.

NEXT TIME!
Many wonder how the world will end - in ice, or in fire. These two elements bring much destruction… yet also, much salvation. The blazing blade that binds - the weapon of Roy, the Young Lion. But what happens when said blazing blade clashes with another…?
“THAT OF NYLOCKE, DRAGON OF THE COLD STEEL!”
