Shaha Region!: Shaha Region Legendaries : Maardicore

by Lord Of Pain

Lord Of Pain One of the Legendaries of the Shaha region, part of the Disaster Trio
Hi guys! Today I'll be talking about one of the Middle East/Persian/Egyptian based Shaha region fakemon Legendaries! Starting with Maardicore!!

Species name: Maardicore

Type: Poison/Dark

Pokedex entry: Maardicore wanders ruinous castles built on snowy mountain tops at the north of Shaha, it's roar brings winter and when told by Arceus it will cause storms and avalanches to punish humans

Ability: Cold Storm - when the poke Mon is sent on the field he starts a storm that pours down cold water, all poke Mon caught under the rain that are weak to the ice type have all stats lowered by one, every turn each opponent individually has 10% to get struck by lightning each turn

Appearance: a black bipedal feline, has white Ram like horns sprouting from the sides of its head and a forward curved horn on its snout, diamond shaped purple fangs rimming his mouth ,has grey eyes with purple slit pupils, it has a big grey fur mane around its neck that extends downwards along its back, ribs of a ribcage poking out from under it and wrapping around its chest, ram skulls as shoulder pads, has slender clawed legs and arms with 3 purple claws each, winged arms like a bat, has a long tail with a big purple blade at the tip and an indigo octagonal gem on its chest

Signature Move: Pike Storm/poison type - Maardicore rolls up and shoots it's spike like hairs at the enemy side of the field showering them with poisonous pikes that damage all enemy poke Mon and lay poison spikes on the enemy field

Name and Design Origin : the name origin for Maardicore is Manticore, the Persian mythical beast it was based off and "Ma'ard khore" which is Persian for "Man eater" which the Manticore was, Manticores are depicted as lions with bat wings, bull horns, scorpion tail and 3 rows of shark teeth, so I tried to incorporate that in the design, as for the ability it's a reference to where they live, either thick forests or stormy cold mountains

Tell me what you think in the comments!

Hm. Yeah, I'd imagine pulling off something Noiverny with the arms would work. ^^

Switching does clear out stat decreases/increases, but it also gives the opponent a free shot at whatever you switched in - and considering the thing's signature move deploys an entry hazard and the fact that what you're describing as the ability's effect is some sort of unique weather condition - I'm assuming it works somewhat in the manner of the primal weathers (that is to say, it works so long as the 'mon is in play and clears off when it isn't) - it sounds like it would cause the stat drop every time an ice-weak 'mon enters the field rather than a one-time effect when the thing gets sent in... so yes, I can most certainly see this ability getting broken pretty damn quickly. I would have restricted the stat drops to both defensive stats, or possibly one of the defensive stats and speed, perhaps?

@StellarWind Elsydeon ill try to answer some of the questions, though it seems like a hybrid I mostly based it off a manticore with few demon tweaks since persian myths are full of them...

As for the arms they are Winged AND Clawed.... They kinda worked on Noivern so I thought it's works here too

For balancing out the move I'd say damage or accuracy will be lowered

And finally since I play a lot of competitive online I know switching out resets any state changes good or bad and that 1 stage isn't as over powered as say 2 or 2 and a half, but maybe limit it to one stat if it really is that broken

Hope this helped and thanks for the feedback ^^

Back during the run-up to Gen 6 I was one of those people who really hoped Litleo would evolve into a manticore rather than a generic looking lion, so as you can probably guess I am quite pleased with the idea of a manticore 'mon - and though it seems you've gone and spliced it with some kind of a bipedal mountain demon, it gives a certain sense of the creature being its own thing, loosely inspired by but not exactly what it's based on in mythology. I find the nose-horn interesting as manticores are often portrayed with human-like faces (y'know, alongside the horns and the three-rows-of-shark-teeth). The "shoulderpads" and "ribcage" growths bring Houndoom to mind (not a bad thing, tbh) - and on the whole I can picture one of these roaming a snowy mountain, a sillhouette amidst the snowstorm. I'm a bit confused about the arms - is it two pairs of arms (one winged and one clawed) leading to six limbs in total, or is there one pair of arms with wing membranes? If it's the latter, keep in mind that bat wing membranes are stretched between their fingers - which are elongated and slender and are relatively broad compared to their bodies. Winged AND clawed arms could be a bit counter-productive for both functions - even though the magical nature of Pokemon allows for some concessions in terms of physics.

I dig the idea of a combined attack/entry hazard (although "in-game", you'd have to figure out a way to balance it) and I can fairly clearly picture how the attack would look like in my head.

That ability, though. I get what you were going for and it is thematically appropriate - especially considering Poison/Dark's only weakness is Ground and Ground is weak to Ice (thus making the ability fairly beneficial for the 'mon). Reducing ALL stats by one stage, though, is more than a bit overpowered and could be incredibly exploitable through switching shenanigans. In addition, how would the lightning damage be calculated? Would Ground-types be immune to the lightning strikes (and would they trigger/be drawn to abilities activated with electric attacks such as Motor Drive/Lightning Rod/Volt Absorb)?

Overall though, Interesting concept! Now to read about the rest of them. ^^

That legendary would be terrifying to have to fight and catch from the sound of it!
It is a well designed Pokémon though. I can't wait for you to tell us more about Pokémon you have designed.
