Green and Friends: Day 1

by Bulba the Curious

Bulba the Curious This is a series where a bunch of people suggest characters/pokemon/events and I make 'em into a story!
This section's ideas came from: Mitchymomo, EonMaster101
Additional thanks and possible ideas for future sections: Ultimate Gamer_Shady, Eeveechu151, Kyubeon
Day 1

Knock, knock, knock. I knocked on the red metal door, hoping to get an answer. Nothing. I put my ear up to the door and didn't hear anything. I looked in the window. I didn't see anyone, but the lights were on.

There, in the middle of the room, was a table with three pokeballs on it. One of those would be mine, soon.

I knocked on the window, expecting nothing, but I was surprised when Professor Oak peaked his head out from behind one of the many bookshelves in the lab. I smiled and pointed towards the door, trying to tell him that it was locked. Apparently he understood me, because he came over to the door and opened it up for me.

Professor Oak was a relatively old man. Today he was wearing a lab coat with a bright green shirt underneath. His glasses were on kind of crooked and his hair was sticking up more than normal.

"I'm sorry, Green!" Professor Oak said, hurriedly. "I stayed up late last night preparing these pokemon for you and the other kids and I guess I..."

"Dozed off?" I finished.

"Yes..." the professor agreed. He looked over my shoulder out the door. "Ah, Lenny, glad to see that you made it!"

I turned around, slightly startled. Of course, there was Lenny. His slick blonde hair was perfectly combed. He wore a bright orange shirt and khakis.

"Hey, Professor!" Lenny greeted Oak. "What's up Greeny?" Lenny liked to call me Greeny, even though I repeatedly told him to stop. I figured it was no use this time.

"We just have one more trainer who needs to get here!" Oak said as he led us into the Lab. Lenny and I were confused. We thought it was going to be just us! "There she is now!" Oak contuinued.

I took one last turn towards the door to see the final trainer. "Hi," she said in a small voice. "I'm Chi."

Chi had short, shiny, black hair. She wore what looked like a yellow robe with a pink flower pattern. As she walked up to us, Oak smiled wider and wider.

"It's time to give out your first pokemon!" Oak exclaimed. "I'm always so excited for this moment! You three are lucky. This year, we have two pokemon that are rare here in Kanto."

The four of us walked up to the table where the pokeballs sat and Professor Oak told us which pokemon each was. "On the left, we have Charmander. A very popular pick! In the middle we have Piplup, which isn't even native to Kanto! Finally we have Eevee, a very versatile pokemon." He turned to me. "Green, you can pick first."

I thought about my options. Oak said that Eevee was a versatile pokemon. I wondered what he meant by that. Charmander, maybe? No, too orange. That left... "Piplup," I said.

"Marvelous choice!" Oak said, maybe a bit too excited as he handed me the pokeball. "You next, Lenny."

"Charmander, of course!" said Lenny, as if his decision was obvious. He snatched up the pokeball.

"Chi? I guess you get Eevee," Oak told the girl. She grabbed the pokeball gently and held it up, as if looking inside of it like it was hollow.

"Why don't you release your new partners to see them?" Oak asked, but really it was more of a command. Lenny and I opened our pokeballs excitedly, and admired our pokemon. Piplup looked up at me and seemed to smile. Almost reluctantly, Chi let out her Eevee who proceeded to bounce around and lick her.

"Hey, while our pokemon are out, why don't we have a little three-way battle?" suggested Lenny. Chi and I agreed.

A quick explanation about battles:

Battles will be in Italics. It will be in a list format and will list the victor at the end. Feel free to skip the actual battle.

Eevee used tackle on Charmander. Charmander's health is green.

Charmander used scratch on Piplup. Piplup's health is green.

Piplup used pound on Eevee. Eevee's health is yellow.

Eevee used growl on Piplup.

Charmander used scratch on Eevee. Eevee fainted.

Piplup used pound on Charmander. Charmander's health is yellow.

Charmander used scratch on Piplup. Piplup's health is yellow.

Piplup used pound on Charmander. Charmander's health is yellow.

Charmander used scratch on Piplup. Piplup fainted.

Charmander won!

"Eevee!" exclaimed Chi. That was only the second time Chi had spoken.

"Don't worry!" said Oak. "I can heal all of your pokemon right here."

@Teapot I didn't like the fact that they both had scratch, anyways. I like more variety. Each starter has a different basic normal move.

Pokémon writing doesn't necessarily doesn't have to strictly follow the games anyway, as long as it makes sense - Piplup using Scratch doesn't seem. Beyond the realm of reason.

@Eeveechu151 Pay no attention to Eeveechu's comment! It's definitely NOT revealing the name of a future character!
