Quilladin: Woodland Warrior

StellarWind Elsydeon My initial reaction to Quilladin was what the eff?!

It took me a few days to get over the sensation as the design slowly settled down in my head, when I finally figured out that it’s honestly just another case of over-stylization (that is to say, Sugimoritis). After all, the entire line is supposed to have a hedgehog/chestnut theme (And that makes sense - chestnut shells do look like hedgehog quills, kind of) and the Warrior/Knight archetype.

So I drew it as some kind of hedgehog warrior with a thick coat of greenish quills… and it actually works now.

The leafy sword and shield were sort of my own touch, though. Because as a knight it’s almost inevitable it’ll get Leaf Blade eventually. XD

    This is the way that I'd originally pictured Chespin's evolution going: much slimmer and streamline than what we actually received. You've done a lovely job drawing it in your image and I really love the leaf sword and shield. Very nice background on this image, too. It emphasizes the Pokemon nicely. ♥

    The in-game models of Quilladin look so much better than the Sugimori artwork... I don't know what possessed him to draw it at such a weird angle. Loving the leaf blade and shield, no grass knight should be without those! :D

    This actually makes me appreciate Quilladin a lot more~ Or rather, it makes me wish this is what Sugimori actually drew instead of that round thing. XD

    I would totally cuddle this thing if it wasn't prickly and whatnot. The expression is also much less derpy and actually makes it look like it's a fighter (and not a ball to kick around), and omg the leafblade and leafshield ahhh

    Remember I said the pencil version was 500 x better than the original? This one is 5 orders of magnitude better :D.

    Also, your version isn't ridiculously rotund, like a bouncy ball!
